£1.8 Million for TRIP

The Taw River Improvement Project (TRIP) led by the Biosphere Reserve and Westcounty Rivers Trust will invest 1.8million over 3 years to improve the health of this vital river ecosystem through targeted habitat management work and by reducing the amount of pollution entering the rivers. Funding will also be used to remove obstacles such as weirs. The money is the result of a successful bid to the Environment Agency for funding from the Catchment Restoration Fund (CRF). Schools sign up to be 'Giant Story Makers'

Key stage 2 pupils from up to 15 schools throughout the Biosphere Reserve area will be visiting our 'Giants in the Forest' on the Tarka Trail as part of our "Giant story makers" project. They will use the Giants as inspiration and work with a professional story-teller to produce their own stories about our changing environment and its valuable role in supporting our way of life.  Schools' visits will begin in October. This activity supports the Biosphere's Nature Improvement Area (NIA) programme.  Photo above: Courtesy of Simon Burt.

Lottery bid unsuccessful

Sadly, the Big Lottery have informed us that we weren’t successful with our c.£900K bid to their Communities Living Sustainably fund. We are waiting for feedback from the BLF to help us understand the strengths and the weakness of the bid.  We are of course dissappointed but feel the bid covered some important territory and led to some valuable partnerships and ideas that we hope we can progress in some other form. We remain one of 30 groups selected from 240 nationally to be in the Communities Living Sustainably information sharing group. Thank you to all those involved in developing the bid.
