Oculus Rift Launch Support

We know that you’ve been eagerly awaiting news about Elite Dangerous on the Oculus Rift, which is why we’re pleased to be able to confirm that Elite Dangerous' official support for Oculus Rift's launch SDK will be available with the launch of the consumer version of the Oculus Rift.

Before the Oculus launch we will be releasing an updated Elite Dangerous build which will contains support for the latest Oculus SDK, available at no additional charge. All of the existing and future customers that have an Oculus Rift consumer headset will be able to use it.

Any existing and future players who wish to permanently migrate to the Oculus Store  will be able to get a free code from the Frontier Store (as they do with Steam keys currently).

In addition, the Oculus Store will be selling a Deluxe Edition bundle for new Elite Dangerous customers, which will include Elite Dangerous, Elite Dangerous: Horizons Season Pass, a starter pack of paint jobs and a bobble head. As with Steam, Oculus Store customers will also have to create a Frontier Store account (for no extra charge) as part of the purchase process.

Frontier and Elite Dangerous are at the forefront of VR, and we’re delighted to be able to confirm our support for Oculus Rift when they launch their consumer headset.

Things get a bit wild in the latest video from Blackixo, who showcases some of the crazy activities him and his fellow Commanders are getting up to while out exploring planets in the vast expanse of space. Don't miss their insane-looking antics while waiting on the edge of a sheer cliff face. Some impressive-looking flybys.
This intriguing image comes from Commander PeaceDog who titles his image 'Face to Face with the Unknown'.
We close this week's Horizons highlights with something coming directly from a member of our dev team. Audio designer, Joe Hogan built this brilliant LEGO SRV over the weekend, and he's uploaded it to the LEGO Ideas site. Head over there and support his design now!

Welcome to our weekly roundup of news stories and events in the Elite Dangerous galaxy.
Authorities at Wilkes Orbital in the Nespeleve system have announced that Professor Ishmael Palin and his research team were among those recently rescued from the criminal Blue Hand Gang. The professor is understood to have suffered significant mental and physical trauma, but it is hoped he will make a full recovery.
LHS 3447 Dynamic and Co has announced that the campaign to construct a new starport in the LHS 3447 system has reached a successful conclusion. All the necessary materials for the starport have now been received, and the agitators disrupting delivery operations have been neutralised. Bluford Orbital is expected to open its doors in the next few days.
Federal President Zachary Hudson has announced plans to create a new arm of the Federal Navy known as the People's Navy, supported by local corporations rather than Federal taxation. The Navy will be established with a new Farragut Battle Cruiser, to be added to the 54th fleet. The Federation has appealed to the galactic community for help with the construction project.
The Canonn Interstellar Research Group has launched a campaign to construct a state-of-the-art research outpost in the Col 285 Sector IX-T d3-43 system to support its ongoing research into the Unknown Artefacts. As part of this initiative, the organisation has placed an open order for palladium, promising to generously reward pilots who deliver the necessary materials to Thompson Dock in the Varati system.
The Lave Radio Network’s campaign to create a new interstellar transmitter has been a resounding success. The galactic community responded enthusiastically to the campaign, delivering large quantities of Cherbones Blood Crystals to Lave Station for use in the new transmitter.

Probably one of the craziest endurance challenges in the galaxy, the 2nd Annual Voyager Challenge kicks off on March 24, 2016. Head over to the original forum post to find out how you can get involved.

Can you make 60,000 light years in under 40 hours? According to event organisers, last year's record was an incredible 38 hours, 44 minutes!

It'll take some doing, but we know that there must be some Commanders out there with the tenacity to get this done!

Remember, fly safe Commanders! Make sure you take regular breaks, look after yourselves and be sensible with any long play sessions.

Community Goals Update

Greetings, Commanders, and welcome to this week’s community goals blog. If you’re looking for a goal, the breakdown below should help:

Expanding the Federal Fleet:

Stevenson Base in Beta Hydri - Deliver computer components to Stevenson Base in Beta Hydri to support the construction of the new federal navy capital ship

Canonn Outpost Campaign:

Thompson Dock in Varati - Deliver Mined Palladium to Thompson Dock in Varati to help Canonn build a new scientific research outpost in Col 285 Sector IX-T d3-43

Canonn Miner Protection:

Thompson Dock in Varati – Protect the mining operations supporting Canonn’s research outpost construction project. Hand in bounty Vouchers at Thompson Dock in Varati

Federal President Zachary Hudson has announced plans to add a new Farragut Battle Cruiser to the Federal fleet. The gigantic new vessel will be capable of transporting multiple Federal Corvettes in addition to boasting an array of heavy weaponry. Captain G.C. Richards, who is overseeing construction of the new ship, issued a brief statement to the media:

“This new battle cruiser will occupy a significant role in the Federal Navy, strengthening our borders and enhancing the profile of our armed forces. In the interest of completing production as efficiently as possible, we have authorised the Beta Hydri Corporation to reimburse pilots who deliver essential supplies to our base of operations at Stevenson Base. This is an opportunity for those loyal to the Federation to support a vitally important initiative.”

In other news the Canonn Interstellar Research Group has launched a campaign to construct a state-of-the-art research outpost in the Col 285 Sector IX-T d3-43 system to support its ongoing research into the Unknown Artefacts. As part of this initiative, the organisation has placed an open order for mined palladium, promising to generously reward pilots who deliver the necessary materials to Thompson Dock in the Varati system. The group has also issued a open kill order on all wanted ships operating in Varati, Col 285 Sector IX-T d3-43 and surrounding systems, so that those delivering Palladium in support of the initiative can do so safely.

The community goals start on 10th of March 3302 and will run for 1 week.

Whether you’re delivering for science or military superiority, Fly safe out there Commanders!
