Hello Co-op friends and fans!

Photo: GM Dan - unmasked.I’m typing this on a break from an on-site food manager safety training for Co-op staff. We’re training up our newest Co-opers who will be working at the New Deal Café when we open later this month as well as long time Co-op management and staff. These certifications keep us sharp and in the know on food safety and compliant with the rules of the road for our county to run a food establishment safely.

About Co-op at New Deal Café
We’re still on track to open in late July. If you hang around Roosevelt Center you will see more and more activity as we get ready to open: alcohol server training, espresso making training, menu practice including smoothie making, and much more. We’re excited to now really get in there and get it up and running! Be patient, we’re going as fast as we can to have a great opening you’ll be proud of!

Photo: New Deal Cafe Training.Remember, we’re keeping opening day a surprise, but I bet you’ll hear about it when we do open. Initially during the soft opening period we’ll have very limited hours that will expand to full day offerings by the first night of planned live music at the Café in August. Our menu will also begin very limited and expand out as we go so expect less on day one and more options by day 7, for example. We plan on having coffee and smoothies and baked goods from day 1, and adding bagels very shortly after that, with dinner arriving somewhere around the first week of August.

We've got even MORE local!
Photo: Peaches.Local peaches are rolling in- our first batch is from Hollabaugh Bros. Fruit Farm and Market in Biglerville, Pa. just 90 miles or so from here! In another week or two we’ll feature Three Springs Fruit Farm, the hit of last peach season and a Farmer’s Market favorite! SO be on the lookout for those! CAUTION! Local peaches are so juicy you may need to eat them over your sink!

From Virginia a paleo and vegan friendly treats company Bakefully Yours is offering Paleo Brownies, Coconut Brittle and Paleo Cookies! They taste great and are chock full of whole grains and better-for-you-sweeteners. They pride themselves on being a woman-owned business in a 100% Gluten Free kitchen! https://www.bakefully.com/

Photo: Baltimore BBQ Sauce.Photo: Sweet Kiwi granola.DC based Sweet Kiwi has a brand-new healthy granola and we’ve got it! Keto Granola and Rise Granola are the two varieties we have presently- https://www.unionkitchen.com/blog/sweet-kiwi-expands-product-line-with-tasty-granola

Baltimore Barbecue Company BBQ Sauce has two flavors on our shelves- Chesapeake and Original. Check them out for award-winning small batch BBQ sauce!

Hot enough for ya?!?
Yup, it’s definitely summer out there! But we are LOADED up with cool refreshment all over the place- from light and healthy sparkling waters to awesome local session beers and perfect summer white wines and rosés! Start the morning with a cold brew, get yourself a tea and cool down! Or just take plain water slice up some cucumbers and some mint (available at the Co-op or in the sidewalk at the garden side of my house, ha!), and plop it in a pitcher. Cool it down and imagine you are at the fanciest spa in the universe! Co-op is here to help you be cool and stay cool! Get a beverage and go for a swim now without the need for reservations! Woo hoo! Cannonball in for me!

School supply drive is happening now!
We know that school just ended but we’re teaming up with the nice folks at Greenbelt Federal Credit Union to collect school supplies for kids in our area that need ‘em! The box is up by the Roosevelt Center side and is ready to be filled up with supplies from generous neighbors like you! There is a list available to suggest what students need these days. We have some supplies in aisle 10 or get them wherever you like!

We're cookin' y'all
Ashley and staff are champing at the bit to start feeding you even more delicious food but in the meanwhile the Deli is still cooking up food for you!  And our vendor partners can also fill in so you can stay out of that kitchen! I’ve been WAY into the expanded selection of Health Sushi especially the light and refreshing Veggie Spring Rolls! Heba’s Mediterranean is a favorite year-round but there’s something about grape leaves, hummus and tabouli in the summer that just hits right. We also carry local Olive Tree hummus and national brands too.
