If you look many of the older Delaware Maid knives you notice they had the stacked leather handle. Much like the Randall knives from Florida were leather handles. Then in about 1960, Loveless was going to wood, stag etc and leaving the leather as a thing of the past. That is until 1989 when Loveless did the 35th Anniversary knife. This was an ideal that was to be a special knife and only 35 were made, and they had 35th Anniversary on the logo, and numbered  1-35. The blade was 5” and aluminum butt cap. They quickly sold out at $3500 each. That was a ton of money in 1989.

Then about 6 years later Loveless did another leather handled knife. But according to Jim Merritt in 1995, the leather handle was such a pain to put on they did about 5 knives and called it quits. I had always heard of these knives, but never held one or even saw one. They sold out within hours of being at a local show in California.  It was not until I was able to buy these, last spring, that I was finally able to feel of these knives. Man, what a shock, there two little knives were the best feeling little rascals I had held in years.

The blade is just under 4” and the fit and finish are so much better than the original 35th Anniversary knife, they are simply amazing works. Everything about these knives are right on target. The handle feels great, the balance is amazing, the leather is not burned , as on many of the 35th Anniversary knife were burned with black patches because they got to hot under the wheel. And, the 35th Anniversary knives still sell for big money.

These are the only 2 I have ever seen or held. I guess the real thrill was when I picked them up, that had the loveless magic.

If you want something truly rare from Loveless, you won’t find anything nicer than these 2 leather handled knives made over 23 years ago. Hard to believe how different they look and feel.

These two are now for sale. Get in contact with me if you have any question.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, at least if it put you to sleep you got some needed rest.

$12,000 each.
