Back to Work

Yep - summer was too short! The kids started back to school today, so it is time for me to get back to work. I've got lots of classes scheduled for the fall, including art basics classes for tweens and adults.

I'm working on a special dog portrait for Dog Days of Summer, a fundraiser for Therapy Partners®. Therapy Partners, Inc.® is a program comprised of certified owner-and-pet teams who work as a therapeutic tool for organizations in the community, from Huntsville Hospital Pediatrics to the public school system to Hospice Family Care. The event is August 19th and costs $75 per person. Get all the information here.

I'll be at the Monte Sano Arts Festival September 17th & 18th. Yes, it is TWO days this year, so mark your calendars.

And I am now taking portrait commissions for the Holidays. December will be here before we know it!

If you're looking for a fantastic vacation destination, be sure to contact Gail and Linda of Custom Travel & Cruise. This site was so much fun to work on! I loved going through their photos and picking out ones to make their site special and unique.
I took a marketing workshop last spring and the recommendation was to have an "Artist Website" in order to better promote your work to galleries. I now have that focuses on my art.
I also have a new ChromAddict Studio site with a shop. I haven't gotten everything I plan to put in the shop up there yet, but the prints are there. I plan to add the trivets and pendants too. I have also made it easier to sort the classes, find information about private parties, and more.
I started this experimental piece on Saturday. I'm combining acrylic inks with colored pencils. If you have ever read a Star Trek the Next Generation book, you've probably seen the cover art of the amazing Keith Birdsong. He uses acrylic ink and colored pencils to make his incredible art. I tried normal acrylic paint first, but once dry the finish is too slick to draw on with colored pencils. So through Facebook, I was able to ask Keith what he uses and find out about acrylic inks. The inks work kind of like watercolors and allow the tooth of the paper to remain, but once dry they are permanent and the pigments are very intense. My goal is to make more expressionistic art, so we'll see where this experiment takes me.
