Our Mission

The Orangutan Conservancy (OC) is dedicated to the protection of orangutans in their natural habitat through research, capacity
building, education and public awareness programs, and by supporting numerous on-the-ground efforts to save Southeast Asia’s only
great ape.

"From the Forest"

Dr. Ian Singleton - this month's author.

Hello Orangutan Conservancy Supporters,

OC has much to be thankful for this November.

To begin with, "From the Forest," our monthly first-person essays - written exclusively for our website by the top primatologists, researchers and conservationists in the field - has its second installment. Dr. Ian Singleton's heartwarming story chronicles his recent orangutan release project in Jantho, Aceh Besar, Sumatra.   This emotional journey follows five very special orangutans from rescue through release into their new forest home, and it also explores the author's thought process about what it means to be a conservationist.  It is a must-read for anyone interested in orangutan conservation.

And we're also thankful for Reza Yogapermana.  Reza is our very first scholarship recipient and is excelling is in his second year of conservation studies at Trisakti University in Indonesia.  By supporting the next generation of conservation leaders like Reza, we know that we're helping to ensure the future of orangutans as well.  You can read more about our terrific student at http://www.orangutan.com/projects/orangutan-conservancy-scholarship-program/ .

Helping to support people like Dr. Singleton and Reza Yogapermana is one of the many ways that OC works to protect orangutans in their forest home, now and in the future.  We can only do that with your help.

Orangutan Conservancy is most thankful for all that you do to help us continue our mission.

Warm Regards,

Tom
