We are deeply grateful to the nearly 430 guests who joined us for one of the most successful galas in the Fund’s history, raising more than $375,000 to support our mission to serve the Bay Area's most vulnerable community members. Photos from the spectacular evening can be found here.
Gideon Yu, the recipient of the Leadership in Philanthropy Award, talked with NBC's Raj Mathai about the challenges of growing up in the Deep South, fond memories from his time as CFO of YouTube, and the pride he felt when he made history as the first person of color to serve as president of an NFL team.
Dr. David Wu, Provost and Executive Vice President of George Mason University, received the Leadership in Education Award which honors the legacy of Dr. Chang-Lin Tien, the first Asian American to lead a major research university.
The room roared to life during the live auction with items that included a dinner with Amy Tan at her Sausalito home, dinner with YouTube co-founder Steve Chen and Yahoo! co-founder Jerry Yang at Benu and a trip to New York City to attend the James Beard Media Awards.
In a powerful video, a young woman courageously shared her story and the impact that the Community Youth Center of San Francisco (CYC) had on her life. She spoke bravely about her struggles with suicide and how she's "grateful for CYC and her dragon boat team" since she "would not be here if it weren't for them."
If you didn't have the chance to make a gift at the gala, we welcome your support. I also hope you'll stay tuned for next month's newsletter that will spotlight an Oakland-based affiliate working to keep kids off the streets. Thanks again for helping to make our gala such a special evening!
