Asbestos Awareness Training

TriEx have added further safety training courses to our extensive health and safety training programme this year. We offer a one day Asbestos Awareness training course to help promote a safer working environment.

Our next Asbestos Awareness Training Course is on Tuesday, 28th June and we are offering you a 25% DISCOUNT on the regular course price of $350 + GST. Simply use the code AWARE25OFF when making your booking here.

Our full day Asbestos Awareness training is aimed at, and required by all those who wish to work on the fabric of any premises built or refurbished before 2000, and those who influence such works. This training does not train you how to work with any forms of asbestos, but how to work safely on site (from an asbestos point of view), and how to avoid the risks.

Asbestos Awareness training is delivered by our trainer Craig Newsome who holds internationally recognised BOHS asbestos qualifications and who has extensive field experience.

View our website here for further information about this course or contact us via occhygiene@triex.co.nz or 0800 487 439.

Winter Wellness in the workplace

This time of year can be quite challenging for workplaces with workers off sick with head colds and winter chills. There are ways however that you can help support your team and their health over the winter months:

1. Fresh fruit - ever thought about providing fruit at your workplace or asking the boss if they would consider it? Our recommended daily intake of 2 pieces of fruit per day is made so much easier at TriEx as we are lucky enough to have our fruit supplied. TriEx uses and recommends Fruit Guys as they specialise in corporate fruit deliveries. You can contact them via their website here.

2. Sunshine - At this time of year many people leave home for work and return home at night in the darkness. Depending on their job, grabbing a few sunshine rays during the day might not be possible but if it is, encourage "sunshine breaks". Sitting next to a window and basking in the sun for 10 minutes can do wonders for moods and general health. It's all to do with serotonin - a 'feel-good' hormone, stimulated to be released from the brain by the sun. Sunlight also stimulates vitamin D production and high levels of vitamin D help the body maintain high levels of serotonin - all making us feel great!

3. Exercise - winter exercise is still possible and it doesn't have to be for long periods of time. A quick walk around the block with a co-worker at lunchtime is the perfect way to keep the mind and body stimulated and if you're lucky, the sun might be shining too! However indoor options might be more appealing so check out your local swimming pool for opening times and perhaps add a few lengths or some aqua aerobics into your exercise regime.

4. Workplace fun - you can't beat a great game of ten-pin bowling and this time of year is perfect for getting out of the office after work and smashing a few pins! It is also fantastic for a bit of friendly competition between workers too.

Car pooling to work

Have you considered carpooling? There has been some good discussion in the media lately, especially around the congestion on the Northern Motorway out of Christchurch - read about it here. Auckland and other high density areas have their own traffic woes and carpooling won't be suitable for everyone but it might be an option you haven't thought of before.

A website has been developed to put you in touch with some potential new car sharing mates: www.letscarpool.govt.nz "Let's Carpool is the easy way to find a carpool match. Join our rapidly expanding community of members to find carpool partners for your regular commute or a one-off trip. Just register, find a match and share a ride."
