Tropical Storm Isaac

As you get ready for any impact Isaac may bring to your community, do not forget to prepare your arts organization as well as your home. Here are some things to think about:
  1. Consider your weather cancellation policy for any events that may be affected. Here are two good examples from the ArtsReady Library: Performance Cancellation Policy; School Group Cancellation and Rescheduling Policy. Decide now how, and when, you will start to communicate with your patrons about the event to keep them abreast of the decisions you make.
  2. If you rely on an internal email system, set up an alternate in case your usual service becomes out of reach. Use a universal provider like gmail, yahoo, or hotmail. Pre-load key contacts into its address book.
  3. If flooding or storm surge is an issue for your area, elevate or evacuate valuable artwork, equipment, props or costumes, and technology located in your facility.
  4. Make sure virtual and/or hard copies of your insurance and financial information are located offsite, so you can access your accounts and policies at any time.
As always, your individual safety and that of those around you comes first. For tips on how to handle post-storm damage in your neighborhood, visit the American Red Cross. For flood safety information visit NOAA's Hurricane Center will keep you up to date about the storm.
