|"Are you in the mood?"
is a new marketing campaign being put together by 6 local business women in Albany, including HideAway Haven hostesses. Our aim is put Albany back on the tourist radar alongside Margaret River and Broome.
We will design and purchase flags with the words 'Are you in the mood'....to be amazed by Amazing Albany and hand them out to travellers as they leave Albany, through travel agents, airports and other outlets. We will ask travellers to take photos with their flag in unusual places or famous landmarks, post them on facebook, send them to newspapers etc and get people talking and asking questions about Albany!! We even got a mention in the local paper. If you are on facebook please go to the above link and like our page.
We created this campaign over a couple of glasses of local wine and a 'fundue it @ 5' on a Saturday afternoon. If you wish to enjoy this fondue during your stay they are available for $30 at 5pm each day (prior request only).
Foundation Day Long Weekend
Foundation Day is officially celebrated on June 1 to commemorate the first sighting of Western Australia's coast from a merchant ship 'Barque Parmelia'. This resulted in the establishment of the first British colony in Western Australia 'Swan River Colony'.
The annual Albany Car Classic Race was held this weekend. The weather was amazing. Crowds lined the streets to witness the enthralling sights of vintage and classic cars taking part in this exciting motor event.

We enjoyed a rare Sunday off last weekend and visited 14 Peels Place and caught up with Karin. The kitchen in their newly opened cafe was ravaged by fire during that week. But they were back this weekend with a gourmet sausage sizzle on the sidewalk during the Classic Car Race while work continued on the rebuilding. We then headed off to Vancouver Cafe for lunch. Cute little cafe with a real Bohemian feel. Very unique with an amazing menu. We tried the Nasi Goering with prawns and the Pizza. This was very different with the base being served with the toppings. The base was amazing and they supplied us with the recipe.
The weather was just gorgeous during the weekend and I headed to the beach for a walk. Lots of fishing boats bobbing on the ocean. Hopefully they brought home dinner.
If you need a break away but think Albany is too cold this time of year....think again!! Book in for next year!!
We had some special guests this weekend. Morgan and Lee booked last June weekend but had to cancel. Luckily they made it this year with their delightful13 year old daughter Carly. They also brought friends with them from Busselton. We love having a houseful of people who are enjoying time together. They also enjoyed an Italian dinner last night of Feta Rocket Salad, Sardian Pork & Salami Pasta, Meatball Lasagna and garlic bread. Dessert was a Mochoa Ricotta Tiramasu. Loved the comment Carly left in the guest book...Yum Yum Yum :-)
Next weekend we are donating two rooms as part of a fundraising quiz night. Be interesting to see who steps out of the limo, toothbrush in hand at HideAway Haven. Oh no we were in the paper twice this week!!
Till next time - Becki & Maggie
