Mum's Birthday

It is Mum's birthday this week and I wanted to send her something different.  Liliesinatube is a brand new, and highly innovative way to send flowers direct from the grower to a special someone.  Lillies in a tube is the brain wave of our friend Charles Reynolds from the award winning Floresence.  We often purchase these gorgeous liliums for our common room.  They look stunning and last a long time.  Great job Charles!!

Next time you want to send flowers, try
Lilies in a tube.  They will be delivered to the door.

A Paradise for Lovers of Fortified Wines

Chateau Dorrien was our last stop after 2 days of wine tasting in the Barrossa Valley.  What a stunning array of wines, meads and fortified wines.  What started as 'let's just try a couple' to us tasting the whole range.  Then we couldn't leave without buying a dozen mixed bottles.

We will now serve these unusual and delicious ports and meads to the guests in our new Bush Land Executive Suite.  From White Fort and Chocolatino Port to Spicy, Scarlet and Quandong Mead we will surprise you.  Perfect with chocolate at the end of the day.

Our first 'The HideAway Infusion' weekend

We were asked by the WA Club to donate a 'The HideAway Infusion' together with 3 nights accommodation for their May promotion.  They were promoting Albany and Denmark.  Jill and Brian were the lucky winners.  Saturday morning Daniel Sharp our local celebrity chef arrived to pick up our guests and we headed down to the local farmers market.  It was a cold blustery day but as usual the atmosphere at the markets was exciting.  We bought most of the ingredients for our evening meal and Daniel then took Jill and Brian to several local producers and had lunch at Pepper and Salt Restaurant in Denmark.

During the evening Daniel delighted us with his passion for local fresh produce and creativity during an interactive cooking experience and a delicious dinner.

Baked Birds in a Nest

A gluten free diet can come with many challenges and feeling deprived especially at breakfast time is one of them.  But not at HideAway Haven where we cater for all food allergies and special requests.  This is a new recipe we baked this week for a guest with celiac.  She made the comment this was the first time she had not felt deprived at breakfast since starting her gluten free diet.  Click Here for the recipe.

Teddy Fun

September winners of a Lasagna Dinner on their next visit to HideAway Haven are Sandy and Michelle with their Pole Dancing Teddy.  It took us a little while to locate Teddy.

Relay for Life

Relay for Life is a unique event where teams of 10 to 15 challenge themselves in a relay style for 24 hours.  I am walking with the team 'The Beanies' organised by my son's gorgeous partner who is a cancer survivor.  If you would like to sponsor me Click Here

What's on in Albany

  1. 29 SEPSouthern Art & Craft Trail

    Southern Art & Craft Trail

Over sixteen exciting days, 29 September to 14 October 2012, the Bendigo Bank Southern Art & Craft Trail will showcase the work of more than 250 artists and craft practitioners living and working in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. More than sixty exhibitions, which will be open to the public free of charge, will be presented in a wide variety of venues. Visitors to the exhibitions will enjoy a range of art including painting, sculpture, photography, pottery, studio glass art, jewellery, textiles and woodcraft. This year is the 10th anniversary of the event and to mark this occasion two special one-off projects will be presented as an addition to the main Art Trail. "Decade" will be a retrospective exhibition of work created by invited artists who have exhibited in the Trail over the past 10 years. "Silhouette" Anniversary Outdoor Projections are large-scale video projections by Perth-based video artists VJzoo on to the exterior "sails" of the new Albany Entertainment Centre during the long weekend, 28, 29 and 30 September, with sessions each evening between 7pm and 10pm. The two triangular "sails" facing Albany will be used as a canvas for night projections and also the side panel facing Anzac Park where archival maritime photographs and footage from the Historical Society and Port Authority collections, will trace the social and historical significance of Princess Royal Harbour. Underwater/marine footage and artworks created by local children will also be incorporated into the projection content on this panel. The use of maritime photographs and archival footage in projection onto the side panel of the AEC will highlight the historical, social and environmental/ecological changes of the Port and harbour to a broad audience in a new medium - video projection, celebrating a culturally significant link between the Port and community. The placement of the Entertainment Centre means that there will be many, many vantage points around the port area and the hills that surround Albany from where people can enjoy the visual spectacular.
