Spring is almost here and we are excited with all the bookings we are receiving from guests wanting to enjoy our beautiful city and weather. I get excited to see the new growth and flowers blooming in our garden. Now that I have finished all our taxes, I will get busy planting and weeding so we can showcase our HideAway. We haven't been out and about the last couple of weeks, choosing to spend some quiet time to prepare for the rush. We continue to work on our marketing campaign "Are you in the mood?" to showcase Albany as the ultimate tourist destination. Becki was able to watch her beautiful granddaughter Halle take her first steps on Skype and was blessed to talk to all her 4 grandkids when the families were together. A trip to the States is on the agenda next year.
It has been an exciting month in Albany with visits from the Prime Minister, our Premier and the Lord Mayor of Perth. The Lord Mayor, Lisa Saffidi suggested that Albany needs a high speed train to transport tourists here. How awesome would that be? I believe a lot of people from Perth would head to Albany for a weekend break from the heat and city life. Our beautiful secluded beaches is always a real drawcard.
Albany is the Guest Town at the Perth Royal Show in October. It will showcase Albany to 400,000+ show visitors. Hampers of beautiful local products are being prepared and daily raffle prizes are being organised. Win an amazing holiday experience to Albany and delight in local produce, regional cuisine and guest chefs as you discover history, beautiful beaches and amazing holiday experiences. HideAway Haven has donated a 2 night stay with gourmet breakfast included. Drop by the Albany Pavilion and maybe you will be staying here!!

If you are in Albany during the long weekend in October 29 & 30, join local chefs as they cook alongside Junior Masterchef judge Anna Gare, to present the best of what the region offers - fabulous food, fine wines, new beers and entertainment. We will be booking in for the Master Class. If you are interested and want more info give the tourist bureau a call on 98482055.
With Spring, the fresh vegies are making the markets colourful. I love going to the markets on Saturday morning to gather fresh produce to use for our gourmet breakfast. Asparagus is available and microgreens to garnish our dishes. This morning we served vegetarian quiche with feta and sun dried tomatoes, made with asparagus and spinach from the markets. Looking forward to the summer fruits again so we can make our popular fresh fruit bowls.
Eating out in Albany
Saffron Indian Restaurant will be opening soon and the Curry Leaf has recently opened. Joop Thai is now operating as a dine in restuarant after starting as take-away for a few months. We hope to try it next week. We'll take lots of photos. Phillips Brook Winery has recently opened a cafe and is serving lunch. We hear the food is delicious and the service first class. A lot of the winery cafes and restaurants have been closed during the winter months and will opening again in September.
As we emerge from winter we are attending a French Provincial Inspired Long Table Dinner celebrating Spring in the South. There will be two open kitchens on display at the Albany Boat Shed to view the talented workmanship of our local home grown celebrity chef Dan Sharp and Escoffier Trained chef Xavier Poupel. We are excited to be part of this event and look forward to great food, wine and company.
Want to give your Dad or the Father of your children a special gift this year? Why not present him with a gift certificate from HideAway Haven and spoil him for a night or two?
or maybe use it as an excuse to spoil yourself as well and book in for a pamper weekend?
Till next time
