Investigation report released into dangerous incident at Ashton Coal Mine

We have published an investigation report into a dangerous incident that occurred at Ashton Coal Mine, Camberwell on 30 May 2019.

The report describes the investigation we conducted into the cause and circumstances of the incident, and provides the investigation findings and recommendations to industry.

Fatality not work-related

We have recently published the investigation information release on the death of a worker at Springvale Colliery, Lidsdale on 21 August 2020. Our investigation into the incident considered the death of the worker as non-work-related.

Final reminder:
Practising certificate

From 1 October 2020, a practising certificate must be held by anyone intending to exercise a statutory function at a mine that requires the certificate. We will be monitoring compliance with the new requirements.

Prosecution proceedings against Albury Quarry commence

We have commenced prosecution proceedings against blasting services contractor Hamiltons Blasting Services Pty Limited (HBSPL), its shotfirer David Hamilton, mine operator Burgess Earthmoving Pty Limited (BEMPL), and its Director Russell Burgess in relation to a blasting incident which occurred at Albury Quarry in 2018.

Exploration companies convicted of breaching NSW mining laws

Mining exploration companies AU Exploration Pty Ltd (AU Exploration) and NBH Resources Pty Ltd (NBH Resources) will have to pay $15,500 in fines and costs after being convicted of breaching the state’s mining laws.
