Collision between dozer and haul truck

We have published an investigation information release concerning a collision between a dozer and a haul truck at Mangoola Coal Mine, Wybong on 5 October 2020.

A dozer was working at the tip head. A haul truck arrived at the tip head and reversed to dump a load. The truck operator heard a thud and stopped. The haul truck and the dozer had collided. The dozer operator sustained soft tissue injuries and was transported to hospital for medical review.

Report on the statutory review of WHS (MPS) laws

The report on the statutory review of the Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum Sites) Act 2013 and Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum Sites) Regulation 2014 (WHS (MPS) laws) was tabled in Parliament by the Deputy Premier on 10 November 2020.
The review found the objectives of the Act remain valid and its terms generally appropriate for securing those objectives. It also made 40 recommendations for improvements to the operation of the laws.

Worker injured when pulling electrical cable with an integrated tool carrier

We have published an investigation information release concerning an incident that occurred at Cadia East Operations on 1 September 2020 when workers were underground installing a high voltage cable from an integrated tool carrier (ITC) fitted with a man-basket.

briefing session

Coal mine open cut examiner and mining engineering manager

An additional online candidate briefing session for coal mine open cut examiner and mining engineering manager certificate of competence applicants will be held on Monday 14 December 2020.

You must register to attend the session.

Maintenance of competence requirements for Tier-2 quarry managers

We have recently announced the adoption of a three-tiered approach to the administration of the quarry manager practicing certificate scheme. We have also published guidance material that outlines the standards and experience requirements for persons who carry out the quarry manager statutory function.
