A worker suffered serious head injuries when the grader she was operating made contact with a pressurised dewatering pipeline, causing glass and debris to forcibly enter the operator’s cabin. The worker was transported to hospital for treatment. The NSW Resources Regulator has commenced an investigation into the incident.

Investigation release - worker killed by earth-moving tyre
A 37 year old worker was fatally injured when a large earth-moving tyre, weighing about 2.2 tonnes, fell from a tyre handler at the mine’s heavy vehicle wash bay. The incident occurred at 7.20pm on 3 November 2018. 
The NSW Resources Regulator has commenced a major investigation to determine the cause and circumstances of the incident.

Safety alert - working at heights
The hazard of working at heights and the appropriate use of working at heights equipment was highlighted when a quarry worker fell more than 7 metres during the construction of a guardrail on a conveyor gantry. The worker involved was not wearing working at heights equipment at the time of the incident.

New design orders

We have published new design orders for plant design registration on our website which have been published in the NSW Government Gazette.

The newest design orders relate to diesel engine systems, powered winding systems (other than person-riding  hoists), person riding hoists (winding systems) in small gemstone mines, and detonators.

We are continuing to revise and update the plant design registration process so keep an eye on our website for new and updated documents.

Port Macquarie next stop for small mines health and safety roadshow


The annual small mines health and safety roadshow will be in Port Macquarie on 15 November. It's not too late to register your interest to attend, click on the button.

The roadshow provides information and guidance about hazard management plans, hazard control plans and the process for reporting or notifying the regulator about safety incidents. Analysis of data relating to recent mine safety incidents is also included.
