Open cut mine

Summary: A worker was attempting to rectify a jammed conveyor belt when he slipped and fell into the feed chute of the conveyor. The worker was engulfed as the plate feeder continued to feed material from the hopper. A loader driver, operating nearby, heard the trapped worker yelling for help and stopped the plate feeder. The operator then freed the trapped worker from the chute. The worker suffered internal injuries.

Mine fatality – On 1 August 2021, a mine worker, while traveling in a personnel carrier to the mine portal, drowned during a flash flood. The mine worker exited the personnel carrier as the floodwater engulfed the vehicle. As the mine worker attempted to assist other mine workers, he was carried away by the floodwater.
