Public consultation Diesel Particulate Exposure Standard for NSW mines

The NSW Resources Regulator is seeking feedback from the mining industry regarding the application of a diesel particulate exposure standard for mines in NSW.

The adverse health impacts of diesel emissions are well known, and research indicates the particulate component of diesel exhaust can contribute to acute and chronic health conditions. However, there is currently no national exposure standard.

The Regulator has released a discussion paper and is seeking comment on its recommendations to introduce a mandatory workplace exposure standard of 0.1 mg/m3 for diesel particulate matter measured in the elemental carbon fraction and update MDG 29.

The closing date for written submissions is 11 October 2019.

Workshop on Practising Certificates

We will be holding workshops at Mudgee, Lithgow and Wollongong in September for people who hold a practising certificate or who want to obtain one.  The workshops will cover:
  • How and when to apply for a practising certificate
  • How the maintenance of competence scheme works
  • What records and evidence you must keep for the learning you claim
  • How auditing will be carried out for holders
People who attend are encouraged to bring their application or records for maintenance of competence to discuss.

Please note: people applying for or holding a Quarry Manager with conditions practising certificate for a specific mine location (previously a Production Manager Permit) should instead attend a Small Mines Workshop, dates to be announced soon.
