Queensland Safety Newsflash -
Failure of electrical protection circuit

The Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines recently released a Safety Newsflash concerning a failure of electrical short circuit protection on diesel-powered plant used in underground coal mines.

The NSW Resources Regulator will be following up on this issue.

What action should mine operators take?
  • Read the Safety Newsflash.
  • Undertake appropriate checks of all diesel equipment operating at your mine to ensure that the electrical protection systems installed on the equipment functions as intended.
  • If the equipment is found to be subject to this defect, it must be removed from service until corrective actions are implemented and shown to be effective.
