New respirable crystalline silica workplace exposure standard of 0.05mg/m3

Dust Safety Awareness campaign complemented with new silicosis prevention resources


The NSW Mine Safety Advisory Council's (MSAC) Dust Safety Awareness campaign toolkit launched 1 July 2020 includes new video and poster resources themed, Silicosis is entirely preventable.

The spotlight on silicosis prevention highlights the new respirable crystalline silica workplace exposure standard of 0.05mg/m3 that took effect on 1 July 2020. It is crucial that mine operators and quarry managers are aware of the exposure standards in effect and take proactive steps to identify and meet these requirements.

Reminder: Work health and safety reports due today!

A reminder to all mine operators that meet the criteria for submitting work health and safety (WHS) reports that you must complete your submissions by today, 31 July 2020.

Our Learning from disasters interactive timeline has recently been updated with a new case study on the explosion that occurred at Dudley Colliery NSW in 1898, which killed 15 mineworkers.

June 2020 Business activities report is now available

Throughout June 2020 we continued to operate under our COVID-19 pandemic Business Continuity Plan which saw a measured return to pre-COVID focused programs and compliance priorities. 
Site inspections in relation to mine rehabilitation and other obligations under the Mining Act 1992 were recommenced under strict risk control measures.

Opal mine holders and operators safety awareness training course

An online course that combines the Safety awareness course with the Mine operators workshop is scheduled for 2 September and is now open for registrations. The closing date for registration is 26 August.
