Changes to assessments for non-coal certificates of competence

The Mining and Petroleum Competence Board at its November 2017 meeting requested a change to the process for achieving a certificate of competence in the non-coal industry.

From 2018, any applicant for a certificate of competence to be either a quarry manager of mines other than underground mines or coal mines, or, a mining engineering manager of underground mines other than coal mines, is to be assessed and pass a written examination before being invited to be assessed and pass an oral assessment.

This change brings the non-coal sector in line with the coal sector process. Oral exam dates have been added in September.

Compliance priorities, January - June 2018

Every six months the NSW Resources Regulator identifies key priorities for compliance and enforcement activities, some of which carry over from the previous period. In general terms, these priorities are the identified areas of concern that the Regulator aims to focus attention.

By publishing the compliance priorities, the Regulator aims to increase transparency, maintain community and industry confidence in regulatory activities and ultimately improve levels of voluntary compliance.

The new compliance priorities report for January – June 2018 follows on from the Regulator’s compliance priorities for July – December 2017.
