Causal investigation information release:

Two workers trapped in mine shaft conveyance


The Resources Regulator has published an Investigation Information Release on the causal investigation being undertaken following a recent incident in which two workers were trapped in a shaft winder.

The causal investigation preliminary report details the incident on 5 September 2018 at Tahmoor Colliery, Tahmoor, NSW, when two mine workers were trapped in a shaft winder case, suspended about 160 metres from the surface.

The mine and emergency services conducted a successful rescue operation, with both workers removed unharmed from the shaft. 

The regulator conducted initial enquiries and started a causal investigation in collaboration with the mine operator Tahmoor Coal Pty Ltd - SIMEC Mining and worker representatives. The investigation is ongoing.
