Weekly Newsletter: Magnifying God by Making Disciples of Jesus Christ

Preparing for Sunday |
Titus 1:6-16

Prepare your heart for Sunday by looking through these suggestions that will assist you in making the most of your time in the Word.

New Equipping Classes - January through May

The aim of our weekly Equipping Classes is to prepare members for effectively living out and serving others with the gospel. This January through May, we look forward to taking some concentrated time to equip our members in five key areas: Christian Living, Bible Books Study, Foundations, Theology and Sermon Study.

Also, in order to better plan for which class you attend, please see the planned classes for 2022 and 2023. We hope this will better assist you in preparing for personal and corporate discipleship within and outside the church.

Consider coming to be a part of one of these Equipping Classes:

  • Christian Living: Evangelism & Neighboring (FH401)
  • Bible Books Study: The Gospel of Luke (FH404)
  • Foundations: Fundamentals of the Church (FH403)
  • Theology: Systematic Theology - The Doctrine of the Church & Holy Spirit (FH402)
  • Sermon Study (FH400)

The Latest News section of the Summit Woods website is the place to find our Preparing for Sunday posts. It is also a great resource for articles, baptism videos, important updates for members, and many other resources.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Amidst the mass of information swarming around us, take some initiative to think on things that will let your heart rest in Christ: Think on These Things - January 11, 2022

25 Year Cookbook

Hello church family! This coming spring, SWBC will celebrate 25 years of ministry. To commemorate this occasion, we are going to create a church cookbook. Imagine all of our favorite recipes in ONE spot!

You can submit each recipe HERE, or you can grab a paper form to fill out from any of the following ladies: Angie Dubbert, Rachel Stouffer, Ann Gray, or Raylene Tormanen. There will be a beautifully decorated basket in the foyer to collect the paper forms in the weeks to come.

Remember, recipes CANNOT be copyrighted, so any online or other cookbook recipes you love in addition to your family recipes CAN and should be included.

Let any of the ladies listed above know if you have any questions! We will be collecting recipes until mid-February. So please submit all of your favorites! Please read the instructions carefully so we don’t have any formatting issues when we publish.

Financial Need and Online Giving

If you have need, please communicate that need to us directly, or if you become aware of a need by one of our members, please use the online form for making needs known. We will do our best to assess the best solution, including wise use of our benevolence fund.

Also, our website has more information for those who are interested in using an online option for their regular contributions to SWBC or for benevolent needs. If you are giving by check, please use an envelope (provided in back of pew) to help us in satisfying IRS records requirements.

We, at Summit Woods Baptist Church, seek to spread the Gospel to all people, and find great conviction in the need to represent Christ as His ambassador at all times. Below you'll find updates regarding our partnerships with ministries that are devoted to gospel-driven local churches, gospel-driven service, and gospel-driven results.

9Marks Conference at Midwestern is a 2-day conference focused on the topic of Evangelism. Speakers include Jason Allen, Mark Dever, Brian McKanna, Zach Schlegel, Geoff Chang, Mack Stiles, and Brad Wheeler. For more information see their website.

Health
  • Pray for Stanton Gragg who had a procedure this week to install a drain port from his liver to help clear up a bacterial infection. Pray this will assist in effective healing — and Stanton and Robyn will trust the Lord through this all.
  • Pray for Babe and Lowene Darnell. They both are experiencing health issues that have kept them from attending regularly. Pray for endurance during this time, for healing, and they would be able to return to the fellowship (they very much desire this!)
  • Pray for Mark Gray as he began chemo treatment on Oct 19 for his active myeloma. This will be a weekly treatment through Aug 2023. With Mark’s immune system compromised, they will be physically distancing, so seek ways to tangibly and intangibly encourage and care for Mark and Ann. Their trust is fully in the Lord and His sovereignty, praise God. Please pray for healing, being a positive witness for Christ to those they encounter along the way, and to glorify our sovereign God.
  • Dottie Roberts is currently unable to fellowship with our body due to covid concerns.  Please continue reaching out to her. Dottie faithfully watches our morning gathering online and seeks to keep up with the prayer requests our of body.
  • Pray for Otis and Ann Sisson. Ann is experiencing dementia and Otis is caring for her.  Pray for endurance for both of them in this trial.
Family
  • Pray for David and Gale Collison with the unexpected death of Gale’s brother last week. Gale recently lost her dad a few months ago as well.
  • Lori Roberts' mother was diagnosed with cancer in March of this year.  She has had various procedures over the last few months and may have additional treatment soon.  She also is struggling with compression fractures in her back.  Lori’s father is recovering well from a recent heart attack. Continue to pray for them all to trust the Lord through this trial -- and for her mom to regain some strength so she has more quality time.
Salvation/Missions
  • Pray for the workers in South Asia as bring the gospel to the unreached areas surrounding them.
  • Pray for the workers in Central Asia in their work in building up the church.

In general, it will not be our policy to cancel our Sunday Morning Gathering at 10:30 am. Equipping Class and Sunday School, which depend on a greater number of volunteers, may be cancelled. The decision to cancel Equipping classes or Sunday school (or the main service, in the case of truly dangerous weather conditions) will be made by 6:00 AM on Sunday morning.

Cancellations or revisions to the schedule will be communicated via email, Remind text messaging, facebook, twitter, and the website. Please check these sources prior to traveling.

Please use caution when making a decision to travel in inclement weather.

If you need to request meals for yourself or someone else in the body in need, please email the team.

For more information on how to be involved in the Meal Ministry and to register to volunteer; see our website.

Remind is a helpful way for us to communicate more effectively and efficiently with our members!  Click HERE for instructions to register and receive text message reminders regarding winter weather changes, event changes, or ministry cancellations.  If you don't have text messaging, you can also sign up to receive the same reminders via email.
