Good morning! Today we welcome our new class of 1Ls to the Law School for Welcome Week. Below we share the latest Law School news and events as we get ready to begin another academic year.

Excellence with Purpose: New dean of law school seeks to launch lawyers with passion for good

Dean Cole was interviewed by NDWorks as he begins his tenure as the Law School's new dean. Read the story here.

Mary Ellen O'Connell quoted in the Independent

Mary Ellen was quoted in the story, "Venezuela: New US sanctions pressure Maduro but ‘risk exacerbating humanitarian crisis and torpedoing negotiations.'" Read more here.

Judy Fox writes about the housing crisis in Newark and South Bend

Judy co-authored an op-ed in the Newark Star-Ledger, "There’s a housing crisis in Booker’s and Buttigieg’s cities. And HUD is making things worse." Read her piece here.
Rick Garnett in the news

Rick wrote an op-ed for The Indianapolis Star, "Why lawsuits against Catholic schools should fail." Read it here.

Recent ND Law graduate Cameasha Turner featured in the Dallas News

Silicon Valley Maturity:  Ironclad


As a student at ND Law, Jason Boehmig '12 J.D. sent a cold email to Ted Wang, one of Silicon Valley's top lawyers, and asked to pitch him on an idea. Boehmig turned that idea into Ironclad Inc. Read more in this Forbes interview here.

Saturday, August 24
Installation Mass and Reception for Dean Cole
Notre Dame Law School will host the installation Mass and reception for our new dean, Marcus Cole, on Saturday, August 24, at 11 a.m.

University President Rev. John Jenkins, C.S.C., will celebrate Mass along with Dean Cole's brother, Rev. Max Cole of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland, and the Law School's chaplain, Rev. William Beauchamp, C.S.C.

Mass will be held in the Main Reading Room of Kresge Law Library.
A reception will follow in Eck Commons. Faculty, students, staff, and families are invited to attend these celebrations. Please join us as we bless the new dean and welcome the beginning of another academic year.

Remembering Anne

Saturday, August 17 was the one year anniversary of the passing of our beloved friend and colleague, Anne Hamilton. We take a moment to remember our fond memories of Anne and extend our continued thoughts and prayers to her family.

Joanne Broden, the wife of Professor Emeritus Tom Broden, passed away on August 13. We extend our deepest condolences to Tom and his family. Joanne's obituary is here.
"Office Hours" with Father Bracke 
 
Father Jim Bracke will be available for counseling or conversation the first Tuesday of every month, from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m., in 3357 Biolchini Hall starting on Tuesday, September 3.
