Law School Leadership

Marcus Cole appointed ND Law's next dean

G. Marcus Cole, a professor of law at Stanford University, will be Notre Dame Law School's next dean. His term as dean begins July 1.

"I've always had a lifelong love for Notre Dame and what it stands for," Cole said in a recent news article. "It was someplace I always wanted to be."

Cole will succeed Dean Nell Jessup Newton, who has led Notre Dame Law School since 2009. She will remain a member of the Law School's faculty after her deanship ends.

150 Years of ND Law

Celebrate ND Law's sesquicentennial

The first law class at Notre Dame was held on February 1, 1869 — which means Friday is the Law School's 150th birthday.

The Law School community will celebrate this milestone throughout 2019, but the big celebration will be during this year's Law School Homecoming Weekend.

This year's Homecoming will be the weekend of September 28, when the Fighting Irish host Virginia. Save the date and plan to join us for the party!
