5 Ways to Add Zest
to Your Work

True happiness comes from the joy of deeds well done, the zest of creating things new. Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Colonel Sanders’s (Founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken) famous secret chicken recipe was rejected 1,009 times before a restaurant accepted it. Edison made thousands of unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb, before creating a design that worked.

History is replete with examples of people who persisted despite repeated failures to create something meaningful and valuable for the world.

Z - Making Sense
of Zest

Zest creates joy; it gives you the ability to appreciate life even when there are ups and downs; the drive to face challenges in a positive manner. Zest is fueled by what excites you, makes you enthusiastic and passionate. If you know what this is, do more of it.  Maybe you don’t have many opportunities in your workplace to do all the things you love, but if you can identify what you really enjoy, you achieve greater zest.

When you are not excited about your work, it spills over into your personal life. But when you are living and working with passion—with zest— you are much happier and others will find you a pleasure to be around.

The Significance
of Yearning

Further to the discussion on ‘Zest’, Azim talks about how zest has the power to transform all areas of your life.

He illuminates how in the absence of zest, we limit or rather dampen the outcome of whatever we are trying to achieve. He goes on to reveal the inexplicable link between zest and becoming a great leader.

Q:

"What are the steps to living from the soul versus the mind?  How do you achieve this when you don’t know what the soul feels like?  Do you still have control when living from the soul versus the mind?”

AZIM:

Living from the soul requires a certain degree of self-awareness, honed by a consistent practice of self-reflection and meditation. Until we achieve this level of inner comprehension, the dilemma faced is often about choosing between the heart and the mind.
