Free Film Screening
Tuesday, Nov. 15, 7 p.m.
Emmanuel United Methodist Church
10755 Scaggsville Road, Laurel
HoCo Climate Change is sponsoring a free screening of Mike Wicklein's 70-minute film that captures the sentiments of Western Marylanders and the drama behind the fracking moratorium that passed in 2015. We'll have a discussion after the movie. The state's moratorium on fracking is set to expire in October 2017. The Don't Frack MD coalition, which includes HoCo Climate Change, will be pushing for a ban in the next General Assembly session. (Be sure to Like the DontFrackMD Facebook page.)
RSVP for the film requested (not required) at

A new statewide poll of Maryland voters shows broad public support for permanently banning fracking. This poll echos a Washington Post poll that found a similar strong majority oppose fracking in Maryland. Yet Gov. Larry Hogan and his Maryland Department of the Environment are continuing to push fracking regulations. A summary of the proposed regulations is here; the regulations are here. Ask your elected officials to sign this letter supporting a ban on fracking. Read more about the poll here and here.

Fracking newsflash:  The Student Government Association at the University of Maryland recently voted to join the ban coalition. Also, a Yale study suggests that the carcinogenic chemicals involved in or released by fracking operations could increase the risk of childhood leukemia.
