THIRD SAN FRANCISCO GREEN FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES
2013 FILM FESTIVAL AWARD WINNERS

San Francisco, June 12, 2013 – The 3rd San Francisco Green Film Festival (SFGFF), which ran from May 30-June 5, 2013, has announced the recipients of the festival’s 2013 film awards. SFGFF is the Bay Area’s only festival dedicated to films and new forms of media that explore green issues and sustainable living.

This year’s festival presented the San Francisco premieres of over 20 internationally acclaimed environmentally focused feature films and more than 50 films from around the globe, with over 60 visiting filmmakers and guest speakers covering environmental topics surrounding clean energy, green chemistry, food, housing, trash, water, and art in the environment. The 2013 SFGFF attracted more than 2,200 visitors.

The festival kicked off with the San Francisco Premiere of Rebels with a Cause by Bay Area filmmakers Nancy Kelly and Kenji Yamamoto, which celebrates the epic story of those who fought to save the Marin County coast, and closed on UN World Environment Day with Trash Dance.

The Festival’s 16-person Screening Committee, including international filmmakers, environmentalists, journalists, industry executives, and content experts have elected the 2013 award recipients.

Best Feature Award.
The San Francisco Green Film Festival presents the 2013 Best Feature Award to Markus Imhoof and More Than Honey for the clear, honest and visually unique insight into an urgent environmental issue. We also honor the tremendous success and impact that the film has had in Europe and we hope for similar success in the USA.

Green Tenacity Award
The award is given annually by the Festival to a filmmaker who shows great tenacity in exploring environmental issues in their work. This year, we honor Thomas Riedelsheimer’s unique vision and dedication to the difficult endeavor of expressing art and nature through film, for his two films Garden in the Sea and Breathing Earth. Past winners include Fredrik Gertten for Bananas!*, and Frank Poulsen for Blood in the Mobile.

Type A Machines
This year’s awards were 3-D printed by Type A Machines in the cinema lobby during the festival from green, non-toxic, recyclable and compostable materials. The awards use a zero waste process and are 100% percent locally produced. More info >>
