FOM renewals

Please note that in order to receive your additional 10 discount on tickets for the 11th Summer Music Festival,  you must have renewed FOM membership for 2017 by Friday. Booking for the new season opens on November 14 and Artscape Dial-A-Seat will only offer that discount on names supplied well in advance. Please contact Karinina Ingwerson to renew or sign up.

CPYO at Nederburg

The musicians of the CPYO will be the orchestra of note at the Nederburg Picnic Pops sunset concert on Saturday, November 26, in Paarl.  Stefan Lombard will be on the podium, and others in the line-up include Afrikaans singer, Refentse Morake, the Kenmere Primary School Choir, classical soprano Palesa Malieloa, jazz singer Austin-Lee Jacobs, young classical pianist Qden Blaauw and singer Dirja Lekas, as well as The Grey Violin Duo, featuring Donné de Kock and Ellani de Jager. RSG presenter, Sue Pyler, who will also MC the CPO’s New Year’s Eve concert, will be the MC.  Tickets R100 per person are available at and children aged 12 and under are free. The event starts at 18h00 and gates open at 16h00 for concertgoers to picnic. More information or call 021 877 5123 during office hours.

FOM Gala Concert

Howard Shelley is here – and has agreed to talk from the stage about the works he will play and conduct – the Concerti nos 18 and 20 and the Haffner Symphony. The concert is not being broadcast so you have one opportunity to hear this maestro of the keyboard and the podium.  There will also be a wide selection of his CDs for sale at Peter Kramer’s shop in the foyer of the City Hall.  There are still some tickets available for the FOM gala concert with the CPO at the City Hall tomorrow night.

Alexander Nevsky and Wieniawski

Fresh from her triumph as Carmen, Violina Anguelov will sing in the Prokofiev Oratorio Alexander Nevsky with the Philharmonia Choir of Cape Town. On the same programme, which will be conducted by Daniel Boico, will be Yevgeny Kutik, a fantastic violinist from Russia via America. Read what the Cape Times said about him here.

SA Horn Society masterclass

Michael Thornton, the soloist in the final concert of the spring season on December 1, will give a master class at the Hugo Lambrechts Auditorium on November 29 at the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre in Parow. Daniel Prozesky Recital

Principal clarinet of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, Daniel Prozesky, will give a recital for the Richard Wagner Society of South Africa on Sunday, November 27. The recital and finger buffet will take place at Kingsgate in Sea Point at 6 pm.
      He’ll be accompanied by François du Toit (piano) in a programme of French works  by Widor, Saint-Saëns, Poulenc, Debussy, Chausson and Milhaud.
