EcoCentre November & December News

In this Issue: Volunteer Celebration / Solar Bulk Buy / Education News / EcoCentre Events / Affiliate Events / Volunteering / Other Events
On 5 December it's National Volunteer Day, which we celebrate to recognise our volunteers and the amazing effort they put in to helping make the EcoCentre what it is. Are you a past or current EcoCentre volunteer? Then you are invited!

This year's celebration will be held on Friday 4 December from 7 pm at The St Kilda Branch, 204 Barkley Street in St Kilda. There will be free nibbles and drinks until the tab runs out, so showing up early is the right move!

Places are limited and booking is essential! If you haven't registered yet, click HERE to secure your spot. Having trouble? Ring Fam on 9534 0670 or email

The volunteer celebration is for volunteers only. Sorry, no plus 1s.
A while ago, a passionate group of Port Phillip residents of the U3A teamed up with the City of Port Phillip to enable building owners to install a quality solar panel system on their roof at a discounted price. House owners within a 10 km radius of the Melbourne GPO qualify for participation. Benefits of bulk buy schemes are that the systems are cheaper to buy and install and that free solar panels will be provided to the community in the City of Port Phillip as a bonus.

There are up to 300 packages available and the offer runs until 31 December of this year. Read more HERE if you are interested, or want to sign up.
We are sad to report that our exceptionally talented educator Andrea will be leaving the EcoCentre per the new year. Andrea has been part of the education team since 2010 and has since helped many local schools integrate sustainability and environmental education programs in their curriculum. Among many accomplishments she has made, she helped schools learn how to use public transport for their excursions, helped set up Green Teams and developed early learning curriculum. She is very loved by all students and teachers she has worked with. Andrea will continue her teaching career at Albert Park Primary School after the Christmas holidays. Good luck Andrea, and pop in every now and then for some chocolate!

But we don't have time to stay sad for long, because the education team has been strengthened by two fantastic new staff members: Angela Andrews and Sharron Hunter are the two new educators who have hit the ground running. Both ladies have a strong secondary education background with many years of experience in sustainability education. Spot them in the classroom delivering programs like Tomorrow's Leader for Sustainability and ResourceSmart Schools, or on a beach excursion in St Kilda. Welcome!
