Light Up The Dawn 2021

Anzac Day in the Southern Highlands

This Sunday 25 April we come together, in person and in spirit, to commemorate Anzac Day.

Anzac Day is a solemn day of remembrance for all people who have served our nation in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

You can honour our veterans from home by participating in ‘Light up the Dawn’. Take a moment of private reflection at 6 am in remembrance of those who have served and sacrificed for our nation.

Canberra’s Dawn Service and National Ceremony will be broadcast live across Australia on ABC TV and iView and streamed live on ABC Australia Facebook and YouTube.

Some local services are going ahead this year however there are a few changes to help keep everyone COVID-safe. We’ve prepared a list of local services and encourage you to reach out to your local RSL Sub-Branch for further information.

Don’t forget that Sunday is a public holiday and our Moss Vale Resource Recovery Centre will be closed.

 Interim Administrator’s roadshow underway

Council’s Interim Administrator, Mr Viv May PSM, has this week visited the village of Burrawang to meet with community members and discuss issues specific to their locality.

On Saturday, Mr May is heading to Wingello before continuing his road trip around the Shire.

Residents can book a confidential appointment to see him while he’s in or around a town or village near them.

If you can’t make it on the day, you can email interim.admin@wsc.nsw.gov.au or call 4868 0714 to book a private appointment.

 Throsby Street roadworks underway

Earlier this year we commenced water and sewer main renewal works on Throsby Street in Moss Vale. While a heavy downpour caused some initial delays, works are now in full swing.

The works are taking place over an 800-metre section of Throsby Street between Spring and Spencer Streets and involve the construction of new water and sewer mains.

The next stage of the project involves stormwater drainage construction and road pavement reconstruction between Spring Street and Yarrawa Road.

Renewing these assets helps to ensure a reliable and robust service for years to come.

Weather permitting all works are due to be complete by the end of August.

We’d like to thank residents and motorists for their continued patience and cooperation as we continue the upgrades.

 Home composting made easy

Food scraps and garden waste make up more than half of what we throw away.

But did you know that most of these items can be re-purposed into something your garden will benefit from? Home composting is a great way to divert organic waste from landfill and save money on soil improvers, fertilisers and mulch.

To celebrate International Compost Awareness Week between 2 – 8 May, we’ve got some great workshops to help you get your own compost pile started: All events are FREE to attend with bookings required but hurry, places are filling fast!

If you’re looking to start a home compost system, we’ve partnered with Compost Revolution to provide an up to 50% discount on items such as worm farms, bokashi and compost bins.
