Spring at the Studio

Spring has sprung at the studio and we are once again collaborating with Serenity West to offer you a window display full of colours this time.

The soft pastel tones of Serenity's garments are pairing beautifully with our bright coloured scarves and accessories.

Come and visit our stores for a wide selection of silk and linen pieces in a multicoloured range.

The Art of Noren

Whether be spring or autumn, the south facing window of the gallery always lets in diffused light that shines beautifully onto colours.

Yoko Kano's Noren pieces are a throwback from September 2012 and a fond memory of another colourful display we've had in the window.

That same month, Misao Iwamura and Chisako Hisamatsu exhibited as a duo - strengthening the Japanese connection that already existed for the studio.

2012 was also a year of explorations with arashi shibori and e-silk at the studio. The e-silk was often added to scarves and garments to create a light texture, while arashi shibori was done by discharge dyeing on finished woven pieces.

Online Studio Collection

Our current online collection was selected by Meghan Rosner and inspired by her approach to painting. In Meghan's own word:
" I was playing with colour relationships, seeking out the bright and joyous for these grey days slowly turning into verdant spring, and drawing on the same colour mind that goes into my paintings.

I don't paint with a pallet in mind per se, but rather start at a colour point and build off that relationship, keeping the colour transitioning. I'm generally drawn to hyper brights paired with muted and shaded hues".

Hidden Gem Jewellery

Remember Hidden Gem Jewellery Studio and designer Patrick Johnathan from our first newsletter? Patrick and his wife Jaime have now traded the skyscrapers of Vancouver for the mountains of Harrison River Valley.  Their fine jewellery can still be found on the Island and at the Silk Weaving Studio.
Did You Know ... that a single thread of silk, which is finer than human hair, will hold one pound in weight - that's a block of butter!
