Saltwater Auction Trip a Success
Mike Clancy and Mik Mikitik, both from Olympia, Washington, recently took a saltwater fly fishing trip that Capt. Rick Grassett, IFFF Certified Casting Instructor and Guides Association Member, donated to the 2014 International Fly Fishing Fair in Livingston, Montana. Clancy was the winning bidder at the Fair's Auction last August. He and Miktik fished the coastal Gulf with Capt. Rick this past month. Capt. Rick wrote on his blog that "they had good action with tripletail, getting numerous shots at them and catching and releasing two fish". Capt. Rick Grassett, of Snook Fin-Addict Guide Service, is a full time fishing guide based in Sarasota. Read Capt. Rick's blog post here.

The IFFF is supported by the generosity of fly fishing businesses, like Rick's, who donate trips and merchandise to our Fair Auction. For information on how you can make a tax free donation to our 2015 50th Anniversary Fair

41 New BSA Fly Fishing Merit Badges
IFFF member and Boy Scout Certified Angler Instructor, Michael Brand, proudly wrote in to report on another successful BSA Certified Angling Instructor Training Event. Brand, who led the event as Course Director, and 53 other Certified Angling Instructors provided two merit badge skill centers that served 175 scouts. The fishing and fly fishing merit badges were attended by 87 scouts and 41 of the scouts earned their fly fishing merit badge. The IFFF applauds the efforts of Brand and his fellow Boy Scout leaders for getting youth excited about fly fishing. If you have a story about youth fly fishing education, we'd love to share it. Please email your story to email@example.com
IFFF Joins Fish Habitat Partnerships
The IFFF Conservation Committee has been joining regional Fish Habitat Partnerships (FHPs) in an effort to expand the IFFF conservation program.
The mission of the FHPs is "to protect, restore and enhance the nation's fish and aquatic communities through partnerships that foster fish habitat conservation and improve the quality of life for the American people", making them a great match for the IFFF. Glenn Erikson, IFFF Conservation Director, sits on the Steering Committee for the Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture and John Sabo, Ohio Council Conservation VP, was recently asked to represent the IFFF on the Ohio River Basin FHP Steering Committee. Other FHP committee positions are in the works. Read more about Fish Habitat Partnerships.
Tasmania: 150 yrs of Wild Brown Trout
This year marks the 150th anniversary of the introduction of wild trout to the Southern Hemisphere - a truly remarkable feat during the 19th century. It began at the Salmon Ponds in Plenty, where the first live trout and salmon eggs were transported from England in 1864, creating what is now a booming trout fishery in Tasmania and Australia. For further information on the anniversary see the Inland Fisheries website

UK Event Continues to Grow
Brian McGlashan, UK Event Organizer, reports on the IFFF testing event that took place in Bellingham, England this past September. McGlashan and many other volunteers worked hard to expand the event to include an Examiner Development Course and continuing education workshops. The IFFF testing examiners did such a wonderful job that the statement "IFFF members are like a big welcoming family" was repeated often throughout the event.
