Getting Our Last Milk Tea
It was our last day in Taiwan as our home. What would you do on the last day in the place you've called home for most of the last 30 years?
All our belongings were either given away, sold, or shipped except for the 4 suitcases we would take on the plane. All the bills were paid, accounts closed, car title transferred, and our apartment inspected. We spent some time helping others with cleaning and got one last milk tea and walked around our village. We said goodbye to the people in the open air market, including the ladies in the fruit, vegetable, and flower stands who have served us for so long. There were emotional goodbyes with a number of staff members we have served with for years.
We plan to return to Taiwan a couple of times each year for short-term ministry opportunities, visiting friends, and medical appointments. Dwight's first trip is September 4th - 24th.
We are living with Beckie's mom in Hillsboro. Our bedroom is the same one Beckie had when she was 4 years old. Figuring out how to maximize this one room for our things is requiring some "ingenuity."
Dwight's mom is in Gladstone and we will visit her a couple of times each week. We are hoping to make up for lost time getting to know our extended families better.
This summer will involve a lot of transition as we decide on God's direction for us in this new chapter in our lives.
Dwight (and Beckie)
- the transition back to the US goes well and we discern how and where God intends for us to serve.
- we have the wisdom to know how to best help and serve our families.
- we would see the challenges ahead as opportunities to allow God to work through us to bring grace and love to the people in our new circles.
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9
"It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed." Deut. 31:8
But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
