Thankful for Flaws?
Dear <<First Name>>,
This Thanksgiving we are reminded to be thankful often. But what if we or people we love are suffering or going through hard times? I enjoyed getting an object lesson on his struggle from the Jade Cabbage I saw last Spring in Taiwan. You can read the stories about this ancient work of art but the main take away for me is that the the Jade that was used was considered junk. The jade had flaws, cracks and uneven color. Most people would just throw it away. What makes it valuable was the skill the artist used to incorporate all these "flaws" into the sculpture to make the cabbage look more real. The cracks end up as veins in the stocks and the uneven color is used to make it look more like a Chinese cabbage with the darker green at the top and white on the bottom. The flaws have value and purpose.
The same thing can happen in our lives: problems, failures, health issues, sufferings... We often wonder, "Why?" Yet we begin to see that these very things, even our failures, can be used by God in us to serve and comfort others. He gives our wounds and brokenness purpose. He can redeem our brokenness and turns it into something good for us and others. So yes we can be thankful even for our flaws.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. 2 Corinthians 1:3-6
- Pray for wisdom on if, when and where Beckie has surgery.
(page with video explaining Beckie's condition and possible surgery)
- Pray for Malia as she continues her program in Australia with YWAM and prepares for her mission outreach trip in December.
- Pray for a new place to live when we go back. Our previous home will be used for a family with kids.
- Pray that we will be completely funded for what will likely be our last 4 years at Morrison when we head back to Taiwan in June. (We have 80% of our needed support which leaves us about $1600/month short)
Thanks for your continued prayers, support and encouragement!
