Haringey Walks Celebration event

Join us for a celebration of walking: 2016 is our Year of Walking and we are encouraging everyone to get up on their feet and start walking.

Come along to our Haringey Walks celebration event on Saturday 3 September, 2-4pm at Lordship Recreation Ground N17, to help us promote walking in the borough.

It will be a fun-packed day where you can learn more about Haringey Walks, meet our walking champions and see the unveiling of two specially produced walking booklets. There will also be a chance to try out some Nordic Walking.

Haringey Walks aims to improve the health and well-being of adults and promote walking as the simplest form of free, fun and sociable exercise across our borough.

If you want to include walking into your weekly or daily routine, but don’t know where to start, visit our Haringey Walks page for information about brilliant places to walk and local walking groups. You can also download a free walking guide.

Wightman Road to re-open Monday

Wightman Road in Harringay will re-open on Monday 5 September following completion of the railway bridge works, Network Rail has announced.

The road has been closed since March while Network Rail replaced the ageing bridge.

While the road is closed, Haringey Council will carry out some resurfacing and footway upgrades and in September a CCTV camera will be installed to better enforce an HGV weight restriction.

Tell us about issues that affect you and your local area

Occasionally we like to bring groups of people together to provide feedback on our services and important issues so that we can improve things. If you would like to be involved in one of these early evening discussion groups (we offer £20 vouchers for those prepared to give up their time) please complete this quick registration form and we’ll get back to you.

Have Your say on our Violence Against Women and Girls strategy

Tell us what you think about our draft strategy to tackle violence against women and girls.

There were 2,787 incidents of domestic abuse last year in Haringey last year. Our draft strategy sets out how we will work with other organisations and the community to tackle this issue and make Haringey a safer place.

Read the draft strategy and tell us what you think.

Discuss health services that matter to you

Would you like to talk about local health services?

Haringey’s Clinical Commissioning Group, an NHS organisation led by local GPs and responsible for planning local health services, is inviting residents to attend a meeting on Wednesday 14 September at the Cypriot Centre in Earlham Grove, N22 (Wood Green tube is a 6 minute walk away).

They will be looking at different areas of local healthcare which includes primary care (GP surgeries and other community-based services), mental health and care for the elderly.

This is your chance to meet some local GPs and ask questions. There are two sessions planned: 2-4pm (with light refreshments from 1.30pm) and 6-8pm (with refreshments at 5.30pm).
