On January 27th, the Swedish Institute launched a new film showcasing different sides of Sweden.

In the press release about the film Swedish Institute write that the main goal is to awake an international audience’s curiosity about the country by showing Sweden in an updated and authentic, but not too polished, way.
Johan Sundberg, project manager for the film at SI, says: "This is Sweden film showcases facets of life in Sweden ‘as is’. From generous paid parental leave and spontaneous skinny dipping to same sex marriages and summers that might turn rainy. This openness and honesty are important aspects of Sweden our brand. We want to communicate an authentic feeling of what Sweden is like today."

Have you ever felt the need to escape the city and relax for a while? What better place to go than a beautiful botanical garden to help harvest your inner calm! In Pasadena, The Storrier Sterns Japanese Garden just opened up to the public.
Built in the late 1930s, Storrier Sterns is the only intact example of a major Japanese-style garden created before WW II for a residence in Southern California. Encompassing roughly two acres, the Storrier Sterns Japanese Garden features a fifteen-foot cascading waterfall and a formal teahouse. The garden is considered by many to be a masterwork and it demonstrates the adaptability of Japanese culture in modern America.

The Ice Hotel in Lapland.

SACC LA: Where do you suggest a first-time traveller go in Sweden?
That would have to be Stockholm. In part because it’s our capital and also because of the wide spectrum of things to do from a great variety of exciting culinary experiences, Swedish fashion, historical sites, but at the same time the proximity to the archipelago. It is also an easy destination because many people speak great English.
SACC LA: You feature the ICE HOTEL in northern Sweden on the front page of your website, what makes this hotel such a special destination?
It is a unique hotel worldwide, and people who have experienced the hotel always say that it’s a memory for life. So if you visit Sweden, a visit to Lapland should be part of the journey. I also think that the Ice Hotel is a great example of the innovative Swedish approach in exploring businesses opportunities in this sense through a hotel.
SACC LA: Swedish cuisine, especially food served during festivities and festive seasons, is considered bland or outright repulsive by some foreigners. What is your comment on the development of Swedish cuisine in recent years?
People who have this comment have most likely not experienced Swedish cuisine. The Swedish food scene is blooming and is not bland at all. It is modern, inspirational and generous.
SACC LA: Stockholm is spread out over 14 islands and has a vast archipelago, which island is your favorite?
Sandön, with the town/harbour Sandhamn, not only on a personal level through my family. But it captures the essence of the beautiful Stockholm archipelago.

SACC-LA warmly welcome Jenny Kaiser to the U.S. and we look forward to many successful collaborations in the near future and throughout 2016!
