A Word From the President

Gudrun Giddings

Hej Alla,

It’s a celebratory weekend for everyone both in Sweden and the U.S. starting today, Friday with Midsummer’s Eve in Sweden and continues on with Father’s Day on Sunday, in the U.S.
SACC-LA together with the Swedish Church and SWEA-LA celebrate Midsummer tomorrow Saturday June 20th at Gilmore Adobe Park, that is a wonderful park located in the Grove Shopping Mall.  When you click on the invitation below it will take you to the map of the park and our location. Parking is free for all Midsummer guests, so make sure you receive the parking validation when you enter the Midsummer Party.
We will sing “SmÃ¥ Grodorna” and dance around the Maypole, there will be candy from Sockerbit, food, drinks, including Swedish Cider from Rekorderlig.  We also have great raffle from SACC-LA’s partners where you can win some really fantastic prices.  Last year we had almost 600 guests throughout the day so do come early before we reach capacity ;-)  For fun we have included a playful video about the Swedish tradition of Midsummer that you can watch to get in the spirit for tomorrow. The Midsummer Celebration is open for everyone, Välkomna – Welcome !!
“You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope someday you'll join us. And the world will live as one.”  - John Lennon

          Glad Midsommar !!

Happy Father's Day

What a perfect weekend it is! After you have celebrated Midsummer together with us it will be time to focus on something else, Father's day! It was only a few weeks ago since we all celebrated our mothers and now it is time again to shed light upon parents. Father's day was inaugurated in the U.S. early in the 20th century as a response to Mother's day, with the purpose to lift up male parental bonds and fatherhood. Similar to Mother's day, people celebrate it around the world on a few different dates. In Sweden for example, fathers get to enjoy the day on the second Sunday in November. So remember to give gratitude to your dad this Sunday!

Welcome prince Nicolas of Sweden!

Princess Madeleine of Sweden gave birth to a little boy this Monday, only two days after her brother's wedding. The prince will be called Nicolas Paul Gustaf, Duke of Ã…ngermanland. The speculations went wild about what the newborn prince would be named before it was official. Eugen, Jean-Paul and even Zlatan (after Sweden’s most prominent soccer player) were the most discussed names. But the happy couple chose Nicolas, an interpretation of the traditional name in The Royal Family, Nicolaus. Madeleine and her husband Christopher O’Neill already have a daughter, princess Leonore who turned 1 year-old in February.

Will Swedes win a Cannes Lion?

Although the Cannes Film Festival has merely just ended their final after-parties, the town is preparing for one of their other famous festivals during the year, the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. With a record of 40,133 entries this year, the winners will surely be impressive. One of the top candidates is, as what has become common in these occasions, a Swedish agency's contribution. Have a look at it, along side other great marketing ideas.
