A Word From the President

Gudrun Giddings

Hej Alla,

This Friday we take the opportunity to give a warm thanks to all mothers, not just as the U.S. is celebrating Mother's day this Sunday, but to every mom around the world for their unconditional love they give and I hope getting recognized for so deservedly. The Swedish Mother's day falls on Sunday May 29th this year, so an early congratulations to all the Swedish moms.

We also congratulate H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden as he turned 70 years last Saturday. As we appreciate many of our international readers around the world, you can tell that Swedes are very proud of their Royal Family. You can read more including viewing some great photos of H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden just below.

Finally, and for the first time, the very popular Eurovision Song Contest will be shown in the U.S. next Saturday May 14th. The host country this year is indeed Sweden and the big finale is taking place in Stockholm so if your curious, tune in and get a glimpse of what Europeans been watching for a record 61 years.

“I believe in love at first sight, because I've loved my Mom since I opened my eyes." -Anonymous

Moms, We Love you!

It's time for us to celebrate our mothers on Sunday, May 8th! Mother's Day recognizes mothers, motherhood and maternal bonds in general, as well as the positive contributions that they make to society. Although many Mother's Day celebrations world-wide have quite different origins and traditions, most have now been influenced by the more recent American tradition established by Anna Jarvis, who campaigned for the holiday. Organized by Jarvis, the first official Mother's Day was celebrated at St. Andrew's Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia, which now holds the International Mother's Day Shrine.
If you and your mom are located in Los Angeles on Mother's Day, what better than to take your mom out to a fabulous Sunday Brunch? Open Table has collected some of the best brunch places in Los Angeles that serve special mother's day offers. Check it out here

Cruelty Free Make-Up

We've all heard the saying "drop dead gorgeous", but no one actually has to drop dead in order to make someone else look gorgeous. In a jungle of make-up and with little or no information about where it's from, it's hard to be a conscious costumer. To help enlighten costumers and provide them with the "cruelty free" options, PETA has collected all the brands that are considered "cruelty free" on their website. â€œCruelty-free” means that products were created without cruel, archaic testing on animals. Vegan products are defined as being cruelty-free as well as free of animal-derived ingredients. In PETA's database you can find more than 500 companies that are 100 percent vegan! 2,016 companies have now joined PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies Program, officially confirming that 2016 is #TheYearOfVegan.
