It's Time to Say Goodbye!

No please don't worry, I am not saying good bye to you! But the end of the year is coming: Christmas is now a matter of days away, and the New Year is following quickly behind. So with 2013 drawing to a close, perhaps it is time to take stock and decide what you would like to say good bye to as you think about the new beginnings in 2014.

Maybe it's an old habit like smoking or nail biting.
Maybe it's some old beliefs that are limiting you and not enabling you to move forward.
Maybe it's a pattern of behaviour like being anxious or lacking confidence
Maybe it's a way of being in the world like constantly being on a diet and off a diet.
Maybe it's goodbye to a career or old pathway that your are no longer enjoying and therefore need to make some new goals and a way forward to leave the old one behind and create a path to the new one!

Often the time in between Christmas and New Year is an excellent time to take stock of what you have achieved this year and what you would like to achieve next year. A fun way of doing this is to make a yearly "time capsule". So take some paper and write down where you are now in your life; what you have achieved this year and set some goals for next year about what you would like to achieve in your life. Some common areas to set goals in may be in the following areas:
  • Home
  • career/Professional Development
  • Health
  • Finances
  • Personal Development
  • Family
  • Leisure
  • Relationships
Then once you have set these, date them and put them into an envelope and seal the envelope to be opened on say the 31st December 2014. It is a great feeling when you open the envelope on that date and realise all that you have managed to do in one year and perhaps even more than you had envisaged. Chillaxing Tips For Christmas

I know that for many people the lead up to Christmas and the festive season itself can be fraught with overwhelm : having to remember to buy everything, constant to do lists, people to organise, meals to cook, the house to prepare, presents to wrap, relations to deal with etc etc.....  it is no wonder that it can be one of the most stressful times of the year. It's worth trying to keep in perspective that it is only actually 3 days: Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day!
So if you know that you are someone who can really suffer with anxiety and overwhelm over the festive season, it is time to read the chillaxing tips below:

1) Diarise time for you - I know that you feel like you don't have enough time, but if you run around like a headless chicken you are going to add to your stress levels. Take some time to relax with a book, do some meditation or breathing exercise, go to the gym, go for a walk or whatever it is that helps you to take a little time out to recharge your batteries.

2) Over the festive season, try to get outside in the fresh air. Wrap up warm and go for a brisk country walk. Take the kids to the park - be with nature for a while and really notice what is happening around you. Notice how connected your feet are to the ground as you walk. This will give you fresh air and a sense of perspective!

3) Make time to have some fun! Christmas often presents lots of opportunity to have fun. Whether it's playing games with the kids, watching a comedy, going ice skating or if it snows going toboganing - make time to laugh and just be in the present moment with those you love. Laughter really is a tonic for the soul!

This lovely quote is in keeping with a theme this month of saying goodbye to the outdated, the old limitations, and instead, creating new dreams to begin the New Year with. So what are your dreams? What do you dream of doing in your life? What do you dream of being? If you knew your could not fail, what would you like to do? Someone once gave me an astonishing perspective about achieving my dreams: they said that if we think that on average we live for say 70 years, and if we equate each of those 10 years to a day of the week, then where are you on this weekly scale? At that point,  I think I was on about late Wednesday afternoon (mid 30's in age) and my goodness did it make me view my life differently. I realised that I didn't have forever to achieve my dreams; that life was too short to be unhappy in the choices I had made thus far, and I took action on achieving my dreams, particularly in terms of my family and career! I have not looked back and even now I am on "Thursday" I continue to take action towards my dreams and goals that excite me, and power up my motivation to keep taking action. As a result, I now feel that I am on the right journey, working in a career that I absolutely love and that fits in very much with my values and mission in life: which leads to a deep feeling of fulfillment and joy inside.
