RESIDENCIES
Elsewhere, a living museum set in a former thrift store in downtown Greensboro, NC, is accepting applications for 2015 residencies. Artists are invited to create using the museum’s immense 58-year collection of cultural and material surplus for site-specific projects that interpret and contribute to Elsewhere’s concepts, collections, and communities.

Elsewhere’s three-story museum offers an evolving environment of living installations, public studios, and materials that provides an experimental context for investigating material culture, re-thinking process and practice, and developing new collaborative approaches. Elsewhere is an active participant in the vitalization of its emerging downtown neighborhood, and an exceptional place for rethinking things in everyday and extraordinary life.

We welcome applications from individuals and collaborative teams working across media, fields, disciplines, and administrations. Research and project residencies range from 2-6 weeks.

SOUTH ELM PROJECTS | CALL FOR PORTFOLIOS
Elsewhere is seeking artists, designers and creatives interested in creating commissioned work(s) for South Elm Projects in 2015. The projects are site-specific interventions to re-form four overlooked and undervalued alleys and green spaces in Downtown Greensboro’s South Elm neighborhood. This art-scaping project will integrate temporary and permanent creative works the South Elm neighborhood to enhance walkability, community investment, civic participation, and grassroots creativity. Projects will be commissioned from 20+ national and local artists, designers, and collectives in collaboration with neighborhood partners.

South Elm Projects will extend Elsewhere’s 12-year legacy of re-purposeful design and collaborative production into our neighborhood. We welcome artistic interventions that invoke new modes of exchange within common spaces, private property, and public wilds. We are interested in projects that enhance community infrastructures and creative economies, and propose imaginative, innovative solutions for what already is, and that seed and develop what could be. We welcome works that engage critical issues of race, class, as well as economies in urban renewal, and encourage smart approaches to ecology, infrastructure, and atmosphere.

CURATOR + COORDINATOR POSITIONS

Operations Curator
Elsewhere is seeking an Operations Curator to start as early as Jan 1, 2015. The Operations Curator collaborates with six full-time curators in the functioning and development of Elsewhere. The operations curator oversees museum operations, non-profit finances, development lists, and administrative functions in close connection with Elsewhere’s E.D. and board. They also participate in developing and ensuring sound community and organizational systems. Education Coordinator
Elsewhere, a thrift-store turned living museum in downtown Greensboro, is seeking a part-time (20/h) Education Coordinator to start as early as Feb 1, 2015.The Education Coordinator collaborates with Elsewhere’s curatorial team, leading the development and production of Elsewhere education including creative retreats, tours, colab afterschool program, and museum education. Curators, artists, and creatives welcome to apply, people of color encouraged. South Elm Projects Coordinator
Elsewhere is seeking a dynamic individual to coordinate South Elm Projects, a series of site-specific art-scaping commissions Downtown Greensboro’s South Elm neighborhood. The position is part-time (25 hours per week) and it runs from January to November 2015.

INTERNSHIPS
Internships at Elsewhere offer students and graduates across disciplines and interests exceptional experiences with learning in action. Interns support the non-profit’s organizational, artistic, and community based projects that maintain and advance the living museum. Elsewhere introduces interns to a litany of collaborative skills in artful life and purposive art. We welcome applications from smart, dedicated, helpful visionaries interested in helping Elsewhere’s staff, curators, and artists build a more professional, creative world.

2015 Internship Logistics:

Onsite Internship Sessions: April 14 - August 11 / August 19 - December 22
Offsite Internship Sessions: March 16 - May 18 / May 27 - August 8 / August 19 - November 21

Onsite Spring / Summer Session Applications are due by January 5, 2015.

Internships are 15 â€“ 40 hours per week.

RETREATS
Creative Retreats offer immersive encounters with contemporary site-specific art practice, storytelling, resourcefulness, flexibility, creativity, adaptation, and community-based creative practice in Elsewhere’s one-of-a-kind world of collaborative production. Elsewhere’s environment of art and everyday objects invokes responses through an open field of creative learning through living, doing, and exchanging that builds group connectivity, communication, and collaboration.

Retreats are open to students, collectives, organizations, community and learning groups across disciplines and interests. Day-long, weekend, and week-long adventures for groups are available.
