Elsewhere--a living museum, residency and creative laboratory set inside a former thrift store--is accepting applications from artists and researchers working across all media, fields and disciplines for 2016 and 2017. 

Elsewhere’s three story museum contains a vast 60 year inventory of cultural surplus and thrift, no longer for sale and available for interpretation and transformation by its visiting artists and communities. Elsewhere encourages investigations into people and things, exploring inventories, artworks, living systems, and neighbors that model, exemplify, and invent new ways of living, working, and playing.

The Residency invites creatives working across media, fields, disciplines, and administrations to create projects that activate Elsewhere. Residents live and work within the museum for 2-4 weeks creating site-specific, responsive work that explores the museum environment, surplus inventories, cultural histories, social systems, neighborhood communities, and past artworks. For more information and to apply online visit,

Southern Constellations offers six paid residency fellowships to artists born or based in the Southern United States. Artists with sophisticated practice, socially and critically engaged work, and commitment to their city or region are encouraged to apply. Fellows participate in as a residency cohort with five other SOCO artists for 4 weeks to create new, experimental works at the museum and participate in dialogues on the conditions of experimental art production in the South. For more information and to apply online visit,

Internships offer students and graduates exceptional experiences with learning in action. Utilizing the massive 58-year inventory, Elsewhere’s environment of art and everyday objects invokes new modes for creative response, living, doing, and exchanging in our downtown neighborhood and across the world.
