Elsewhere Launches Kickstarter To Restore Historic Building, Expand Collaborative Culture
(Greensboro, NC) - Elsewhere--a living museum and artist residency program--is renovating its 100-year-old historic building in downtown Greensboro, NC. The renovation will allow Elsewhere to provide year-round programming, offer three-floor public museum access, create twelve live/work artist studios, expand its national network of experimental organizations, and extend the reach of artists and communities in Greensboro and around the world.
Now through April 20, Elsewhere is inviting support through Kickstarter. With funding seeded by the Kresge Foundation, Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Greensboro’s Tannenbaum-Sternberger Foundation, ArtsGreensboro, The Carol & Seymour Levin Foundation, The Phillips Foundation and cash pledges, Elsewhere has raised $600,000 of the $800,000 needed to restore the building. Elsewhere needs to raise $200,000 to begin the restoration project in November 2015.
Over the past twelve years more than 1,000 artists and hundreds of thousands museum visitors have traveled to Elsewhere to create new artworks, engage public projects and connect with local and global communities. Elsewhere is driving a new vision for art and urban development by utilizing the resources at hand, repurposing materials, and supporting an inclusive, creative place for people to live and work.
