"Here comes the sun (doo doo doo doo) Here comes the sun, and I say, It's all right" The Beatles
Bonjour!

Inspired by the visit of wine journalist, Susy Atkins, this week who said ‘don’t you ever just go and sit in your vineyards?’.  I am now sitting in my vineyard.

The view over the valley, Aguilar castle on the right, the village of Tuchan in the background and a green sea of vineyards is stoically beautiful – nothing has changed.  It is cloudy, even trying to rain which is unusual for this time of year.  I think I will just sit here for a bit and wait for the sunshine whilst I fill you in on what has been happening at Domaine Jones

A bientôt
Katie xx

Jones in the vineyard

The View

This is the view from my vineyard overlooking the valley. The lush, green leaves have sprouted from the old gnarled vines -something that amazes me every year.  So the growing season has started and with it early mornings.  The vines all need powdering with sulphur and this can only be done when there is no wind.  And no wind usually happens at about 5 am!

Silver medal for Jones Fitou

The Domaine Jones Fitou 2011 is very proud to have been awarded a silver medal at this years competition. The International Wine Challenge is unique and is widely regarded as the finest judged wine tasting in the world.

So well done to all of my vines and keep up the good work!

Domaine Jones Wine Tours

And oh what fun we had!!

During the last weekend in May we had a group of 4 people from the UK and Sweden and we had a ball.  In the vineyards of Domaine Jones we learnt how to differentiate your carignans from your grenaches, we tasted the wines, tasted local specialities and stayed in the delightful village of Cucugnan.

As Beverley put it ‘Having such an in-depth introduction into your and Jean-Marc's area, the wines and countryside, not to mention seeing exactly where Domaine Jones wine is made, was fascinating. ‘

But we were also very lucky, - very lucky on two accounts.  The first was that the weekend coincided with Les Amorioles and the second was that the sun finally made an appearance.

Les Amorioles is a 3 mile stroll through the vineyards of Maury with 6 stops for food and at each stop at least 5 wine producers eager for you to taste their wines!  The views were just amazing with the perfume of rosemary and thyme as you walked along the vineyard tracks.  Beverley described the day so well

‘A bit like a roving vineyard drinks party in lampshade hats!  Wonderful!’

Après la Pluie

Again I would like to thank you all for your enormous support and concern about the loss of my white wine.  I am moving forwards but every time I do a tasting there is a big empty space where the Jones blanc 2012 should have been.

It is impossible to replace this wine as it was unique in too many ways but to help fill a little bit of that empty space I have been out and about in the vineyards of Languedoc Roussillon to find a happy, positive summer wine. I have tasted numerous wines but the one that I finally selected just ticks all the right boxes. Refreshing, strawberry, raspberry nose, dry and the palest shade of pink.

The name of the wine Après la Pluie was inspired by my Mum.  When I told her about my disaster she said 'Don't worry Katie, when one door closes, another always opens'.  It was when I was driving down to the supermarket in Perpignan with the Mediterranean sea just in view, that I tried to translate this message of encouragement and perseverance.

The french would say 'Après la pluie, le beau temps' sunshine after rain - perfect!  Just perfect especially after all the rain we have been having – (yes, even down here!)

The wine was bottled last week and has arrived just in time!

The sun has definitely decided to shine again so it is high time to get out into the garden and enjoy a glass or two!

Information on availability and stockists will follow shortly but it is already available here from my Domaine in Tuchan.

Visits to Domaine Jones

If you are holidaying down in this area and fancy popping into Domaine Jones we would love to see you.  It is best to let me know in advance though as we don’t have a shop and are often out in the vineyards. To avoid disappointment and a long drive we can offer the following :

The Jones Aperitif
Monday evenings in July and August (from the 8th July)
6 pm until 7.30 pm

Includes a visit to the Vatican wine cellar in Tuchan and/or one of our vineyards and a wine tasting with nibbles.  The cost is 5 € per person refundable against any purchase of our wines on the evening.

A half day discovery tour with Katie
Available all year
If you would prefer a bespoke tour to learn first hand about Domaine Jones with a limited amount of people then the half day discovery tour is available for groups of up to 4 people.  The tour lasts for 4 hours and typically starts with a visit to the Vatican Wine Cellar, an off road drive round the vineyards in Tuchan and Paziols, a tutored wine tasting accompanied by local specialities (olives, saucisson, tapenade).
Cost of the half day 50 € per person.
