Tempe Amateur Recap

Sam Diamond was the leader in the clubhouse after round one shooting an impressive 6 under 66 at Ken McDonald Golf Course. Right behind him were Blaine Staggs at 4 under and Mason Andersen and Ken Kellaney at 3 under.

It appeared the final round would be a showdown between Diamond, Staggs, Andersen and Kellaney.  However, an unbelievable comeback round of 10 under 62 shot be Sean McWilliams for a 2-day total of 133 secured his victory by one stroke over Mason Andersen.

Congratulations to Sean for his 1st place finish at the Tempe Amateur!  For the full leaderboard, click here.

Patrick Peterson Celebrity Golf Tournament

In 2013, Patrick launched the Foundation for Success charitable organization. Its first campaign was titled, “Pick up a Book." The program is designed to encourage reading and children’s literacy development at disadvantaged elementary schools.

The Foundation for Success will be hosting a charity golf tournament March 2-3 at The Phoenician Golf Club. Not only does the golf course have breathtaking views, but you will be left speechless when you arrive at the first tee and find out what celebrity will be joining your group!

USGA Play9 Initiative

The USGA’s PLAY9 initiative is back for 2017 in order to show their commitment to educating golfers on the benefits of a 9-hole round. It's a simple solution to the excuse we make for not being able to play more golf.  PLAY9 play dates officially kick off on May 9th across the country, but keep an eye out for some other opportunities with the AGA before then!  In the meantime, you can head over to the USGA's PLAY9 page to find out more about the program.

AGA Championship Sign-Up

Sign up now for the AGA Championship (formerly the AZ Publinks Championship), hosted by Randolph North Golf Complex on March 10-12. All residents of Arizona, with or without an AGA membership, along with members of Southern Nevada Golf Association are welcome to participate.  The entry fee is $230 and the registration deadline is March 6th.

USGA Tournament Management Software

The USGA recently announced that it will be providing our clubs with a new tournament management solution that will replace the current TPP. This software will be provided to our clubs thanks to an arrangement with Golf Genius LLC. The AGA will roll out the software to a limited number of clubs each month. Clubs will be required to have a representative attend an introductory seminar before they can get access to the software.

Two versions will be offered to clubs and facilities – The USGA TM Club, which is free to all member clubs and the USGA TM Premium which is an upgrade at a cost of $2,500 per year. The USGA will continue to support TPP through the end of 2017.

For more information please contact Alex Tsakiris or Liz Durnan.
