As this year draws to a close, I have some news for you which I give with mixed emotions.
Nearly seven years ago my idea for a charity to help single parent families took fruition and from that has grown the wonderful Guardian Angels charity as you know it today.  I have decided, after much thought,  that now is the time for me to step down from being President and hand it over.  My role will be to act as a consultant to the new president who I know will be fully supported by the committee and mentors.  I am very proud of starting GA and being able to help so many families over the years.  It has been a humbling and rewarding experience which I will always treasure.
Our members are the most amazing, courageous single parents, many of whom have experienced incredible emotional and financial challenges raising children in a foreign country.  Some of the stories we have heard have been heartbreaking but it is rewarding at a later date when we see families recover, grow in strength and move on.  I am so proud of all the families who have passed through GA in the past years.
I  am very, very grateful to have had a fantastic team of helpers working alongside me: all the hardworking committee who do the majority of the fundraising, the mentors who have been an enormous support to the members, the IT team and the admin and PR support.  Special mention must go to the Vice Presidents, the Secretaries and Treasurers who have given so much of their time to GA.  Last but not least, a big thanks to all the GA supporters who have attended events and giving donations repeatedly over the years.
May I take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you a very happy Christmas and a New Year full of joy and miracles.

Tricia Barr (Founder) 622 795 542

“Pause and remember - Every situation in life is temporary, so when life is good, make sure you enjoy and receive it fully. And, when life is not so good, remember that it will not last forever and better days are on the way."
Effective from January 2017, the presidential duties will be taken on by our own Gill Somers (previously the VP).   Gill has been with GA many years and is very familiar with the ethos and dynamics of the organisation.  She is very excited about steering the charity into further positive expansion which will benefit the members in the future.  Gill commented "I am very happy to take over the good work set up by our current President, Tricia Barr, and I am sure everyone at GA will wish Tricia well so she can relax and spend more time with her family".
Giving Back

The charity is always expanding and is seeking caring people to join who would like to give back. If you are interested in becoming a Mentor on a voluntary basis or can offer another service, please contact Gill Somers. Thank you. More information about GA can be found on our website:

Friends of Guardian Angels
If you would like to be added to our “Friends of Guardian Angels” e-mail list so we can contact you about our events please contact Ann Lawrenson.
Guardian Angels support lone parents with children living with them.  Unfortunately if a single parent marries or has a live in partner or when the youngest child reaches 18,  they are no longer eligible to be GA members. We should always be informed of a change in circumstances.  However it may be possible for ex-members to attend some events and make a contribution as appropriate.
Members Christmas Party
It was so lovely to see everyone enjoying the Christmas Party and good to meet our new members.  After a drink and chat the games were in full swing with lots of prizes to be won. The yummy food provided by Laguna Ribs went down a treat and then Santa turned up with 3 sackfuls of presents!

A BIG thanks to Ann Lawrenson, Gill Somers and Samantha Lange for all their hard work preparing for the day. Also to Clair Gingell Parsons for the great entertainment and Vernon & Celia for doing the photos. We are very grateful to Tammy (Sew Vintage) and her ladies for making and donating the personalised Christmas stockings.

We said goodbye to one of our members, Laura Aldridge and her son Stanley, who were leaving to return to the UK and we wish them every success for the future.

The Ladies Lunch goes inland
We would like to extend a big thank you to all those who attended our Ladies Lunch at Restaurante La Solana in Alcalali this month. The event was well supported and raised 129 euros and gave the charity much publicity. The restaurant gave us lovely food, the raffle boosted our funds and we all had a lovely meal with good company.

Look out for our next event coming up in February next year.
