LEHS Weekly Informational Letter
November 6, 2020

Dear LEHS Community,
In last month’s information letter I discussed sharing positives from our building with everyone.  I recently challenged our students to share how our staff has impacted them.  Below are a few of the many highlights:

I would like to recognize Mr. Shepherd for being one of the peppiest teachers I have ever had the pleasure of being a student for! He is so enthusiastic every day, for every lesson, and for every student. There is not a doubt in anyone’s mind that Mr. Shepherd doesn’t love teaching with every fiber in his being. Aside from being a great teacher, he is a wonderful reminder that we can all find some positivity regardless of how chaotic the world can become. I am so grateful to have him as a teacher this year, and know that he is a ray of sunshine for us all this year and will be for many years to come!

I would like to recognize Mrs. Wagner, whose impeccable personality is matched only by her passion for teaching. Despite the especially unique obstacles that she has been faced with this year, Mrs. Wagner has been able to create an environment where we can all learn and connect with each other with the same enthusiasm as ever before. Even on those days when everyone in the school seems to be exhausted, Mrs. Wagner finds a way to bring an energy to the table that brightens our day. The work that she does for us and others both in and out of school cannot be appreciated enough. Her perseverance is an inspiration to us all! I hope she knows that we are here for her as she has been for us. We are so grateful to be able to do what we have done and are so excited for the rest of this year. So, to Mrs. Wagner — Thank You!!!

I would like to recognize Mrs. Hamner. She goes above and beyond to make sure we understand everything. She comes up with fun study games and it is truly a class I can look forward to.

I would like to recognize Maestra McCallister. I have been in her class since the start of my high school years, and every year she strives to make class fun and ensure that everyone is understanding the content. Even though I am currently an ace student, she has helped me to reach my goals and get me involved in classes outside of high school. The extra effort that she puts in to each and every one of her students is incredible and I know she has had a lasting impact not only on me, but on all of the students she teaches at LE.

Mrs. Morgan - The help you give to Logan Elm Seniors is extraordinary. From your great teaching methods to the letters of recommendation you provide for so many students, you are changing lives for the better. The stress of Senior year can put a burden on the best of us so I can not express enough gratitude for all of your help. I think I speak for the entire Senior class when I say thank you for all that you do for us.

Great kids, great staff, great community= GREAT SCHOOLS

Have a great weekend!

Classroom activities
Mrs. Dexter and Miss King always have great classroom activities to keep students engaged and make learning fun.  Most recently, they have adopted the “escape room” idea and created fun activities for students to reinforce certain novels and math concepts in their classrooms.

Students completing a Compound Inequalities Clue activity to practice reviewing compound inequalities and interval notation. They worked through 4 haunted house rooms in groups of 2-3 to figure out what happened to Jack O Lantern.  Miss Holly King

Students had to complete puzzles in a breakout room to “unlock” the final chapter of Agatha Christie’s “And then there were none” and solve the mystery of Soldier Island.

COVID
I really wanted to have a newsletter that didn’t mention COVID at all, however sometimes we don’t get everything we want.  Everyone knows cases locally are trending upwards.  We at Logan Elm are going to do everything in our power to keep kids in school.  We need the support of everyone to make this possible.  Our protocols at school have not changed with mask requirements, extra cleaning, and handwashing.  Please continue to remind your children of these.  If your child is quarantined, we will make a note in their attendance, and if we receive an official letter from the Health Department, this absence will be exempt.

Infinite Campus
You must register for an Infinite Campus Parent Portal account to update your child’s records for this school year.  We will not have paper copies sent home for this annual process, you must do this online through the “Online Registration” tab.  You can track your child’s grades, get assignment alerts, new grade alerts, view their fees, schedule, attendance, daily announcements, etc.  You will need to contact Mr. Dan Hugus or myself to receive an access code.  nate.smith@loganelm.org or dan.hugus@loganelm.org
