LEHS Informational Letter
February 5, 2021

Dear LEHS Community,
I recently wrote to our staff on the challenge of improving a little bit every day.  Our current environment makes this difficult.  However, our current environment also gives us an excuse to not work hard and improve.  Personally, I am guilty of making plenty of excuses over the past year and using our current situation in education as a crutch for not being an instructional leader for our students and staff.  We, LEHS staff, have taken the stance that the time for excuses has ended.  We spent a small amount of time together during our staff meeting on Wednesday collaborating with each other and learning how we can make small improvements to our daily instruction.  These small improvements, no matter how small, add up and have the potential to transform you and your daily work.

Be a Brave!

Snow Days
We have used four calamity days this school year.  Our board adopted calendar states that we will use five days and then move to blizzard bags for the next three calamity days.  This was approved and adopted before COVID.  We now have the opportunity to use Google Classroom for learning in lieu of blizzard bags.  If/once, we cross the fifth calamity day, instruction will be given through Google Classroom for day six and beyond.  Students need to contact their teachers with questions or concerns.

College Credit Plus
School Counselor, Joanna Shipe, held our annual CCP meeting virtually on January 25th at 5:30.  A recording of this meeting is posted on our website, https://www.loganelm.org/CollegeCreditPlusProgram.aspx.  Please refer to the CCP checklist, watch the recording, and contact joanna.shipe@loganelm.org if you have any questions.

ACT
Brooke Summers, our College and Career Advisor through Pickaway WORKS, has organized ACT prep sessions for our students.  These sessions are at 7:30 in the library on 2/10, 2/11, 2/17, and 2/18.
Logan Elm will be administering the statewide ACT on February 23rd at AMVETS.  Students who drive or have alternative transportation are permitted to drive to AMVETS, provided they have a parent note to Mrs. Mullins by February 19th.  Students who do not have transportation will be provided transportation from LEHS to AMVETS, loading at 7:55 in the bus loading zone.  All students must arrive at AMVETS by 8:00 am on 2/23 and remain in their vehicles until they are dismissed.

Financial Aid Support
LEHS students who plan to attend any form of post secondary school will be given support through two separate financial aid sessions.  The first session will be on 2/10 in the High School Library from 11:00-1:00.  The second session will be on 3/4 at the Pickaway County ESC from 5:00-7:00.  These sessions are open to parents and students, pre-registration is requested, but not required.  You may contact brooke.summers@loganelm.org for more information.

National Honors Society
We will be recognizing our NHS inductees from last year and this year on April 1st in the McDowell Gymnasium.  Students and families will be invited to attend this ceremony in separate shifts.  Our current NHS students are planning this event and more information will be provided to those families soon.

Prom
Logan Elm has made the decision to plan for a Junior/Senior Prom to be held on May 15th at the Riser Barn venue on State Route 180.  We are planning for an “open air” event with games and activities for students.  Please understand that this event is still in the planning stages and may be altered as we approach May due to COVID restrictions.

Infinite Campus
You must register for an Infinite Campus Parent Portal account to update your child’s records for this school year.  We will not have paper copies sent home for this annual process, you must do this online through the “Online Registration” tab.  You can track your child’s grades, get assignment alerts, new grade alerts, view their fees, schedule, attendance, daily announcements, etc.  You will need to contact Mr. Dan Hugus or myself to receive an access code.  nate.smith@loganelm.org or dan.hugus@loganelm.org
