Getting to know our API
Regular followers will know that we spend a lot of time at talking about our api. But what does that mean? Is it just for developers? In this issue of the newsletter we’ll show you an example of what having an application programming interface (to give it the full name) means for n0tice-ers. So don’t be scared, there’s no mystery to it.......some ideas below

Creating crowdmaps

Having other people involved in creating maps can open up a new way of telling stories and the n0tice api means anyone can easily set up a project to do this. We’ve produced this step-by-step guide as part of the open journalism tool kit to lead you through the process of  creating, customising and embedding a crowdmap.
Hacking the API
Developers love to ‘hack’ ie. create new applications and services using the building blocks from other services which an API allows for. itself came out of a hack day and we’re always pleased to help and support this sort of activity. We’re delighted to hear that 150 or so developers are going to be spending a night at the museum at the end of the month for Leeds Hack and have provided details of the API (and a little prize) for any developer team who takes the challenge to hack the n0tice API - we’ll let you know what comes from that!
Behind the scenes
One of the hard-working team behind the scenes has moved on and we’d like to take this opportunity to publicly thank him for all his help. Budding entrepreneur Andre Moses spent a year with us at and is the brains behind a lot of our social activity. We’re sure you’ll hear his name again!

Behind the scenes

We recently launched the pages to showcase some of the interesting ways n0tice is helping people crowdmap, liveblog, build community spaces and brand presence. Please do let us know if you need any more information or help with a project and don’t forget there’s a host of ‘howto’ guides on the blog too.

Got the app yet?
The n0tice iphone app makes it even easier to share what’s happening near you and browse other people’s updates in your locality, or wherever you choose to follow. You can download it here
Top tip
Trending topics shows the most used tags which n0tice-ers have added to their posts. Tags, using the hashtag symbol #, can be added into any headline to make it even easier to flag up hot topics.
