REGISTRATION IS OPEN:
Responsible Advertising and Gender Portrayal at the European Parliament


In collaboration with MEP Brando Benifei, EASA is organising an event on Responsible Advertising and Gender Portrayal.

The event will consist of a series of presentations of best practices. Join us and help EASA raise awareness of advertising self-regulation!

Spring Biannual Meetings in Ljubljana


EASA's Spring Biannual meetings will take place in Ljubljana, Slovenia on 14 - 15 May 2020, hosted by the Slovenian Advertising Chamber. 

The meetings will start on Thursday, 14 May at 9:00 and finish on Friday, 15 May at 16:00. For those who would like to explore Ljubljana on Friday, a city tour and a dinner will be organised. A Gala Dinner will also take place on 14 May.

EASA shares insights at a public hearing on Digital Advertising and Consumer Information


On February 17, Justina Raižytė, EASA's Head of Development and Policy, shared insights on influencer marketing at a public hearing on Digital Advertising and Consumer Information at the European Parliament. 

AMI “Advertising Council” News 

AMI Reklamny Sovet has signed a partnership agreement with the Russian Business Ethics Network, which is a member of European BEN.

This agreement reflects the intention of both associations to strengthen advertising self-regulation in Russia, as well as to  jointly introduce and promote high ethical standards.
 
Another agreement on industrial partnership was signed with the Directorate of 45th World Congress of International Advertising Association (St-Petersburg, May 27-29, 2020). This will be one of the most important international business events in Russia this year.

The partnership program of the Congress includes a special session on self-regulation in advertising (28 May), which is being prepared jointly by EASA and AMI RS.

EASA will also be represented by several speakers at the IAA Congress.

AUTOCONTROL’s Awareness Campaign Considered as “Public Service and General Interest”
 
This consideration implies an exemption from advertising calculation on tv broadcasting.
 
The Spanish Audiovisual Authority (National Commission on Markets and Competition) has just informed that the information campaign of AUTOCONTROL exhibits characteristics and values of public service and general interest, which allows televisions to broadcast the campaign without counting the broadcasted time as advertising, facilitating the emission without cost of the advertising slot for AUTOCONTROL.

This exemption from advertising calculation is supported on the provisions of the General Law on Audiovisual Communication, in which the Spanish Audiovisual Authority is based to assure that the campaign meets the requirements of the Law for the exemption of advertising computation (characteristics and values of public service and general interest) and declares that it tries to give prestige to the advertising activity, showing the economic and social importance of self-regulation and committing all the actors of the sector to a responsible behaviour.

AUTOCONTROL bases this consumer information campaign on a demand formulated by the European Commission in 2005 to EASA, in the framework of the meeting called "Advertising Roundtable". In fact, this year, in which the campaign is framed in the 25th anniversary, AUTOCONTROL is expecting to receive a grant from the European Commission for this general interest and public service consideration.
 

IAP - Code Modifications 

The Board of Directors has recently approved a few modifications to IAP's Code.

The first amendment would increase speed of intervention regards both: Article 39 – Desist Orders (parties will have up to 7 days - instead of 10 - to challenge the decision with the Review Board) and Regulations on the time requirements for the enforcement of self-regulation decisions (marketing communications found to be in breach should be discontinued within 5 working days, instead of 7).

The second amendment focuses on Regulation on Digital Chart – 3rd section ‘Video,’ making the disclosures about commercial nature of videos (disclosures must be placed both in the video description and in the first scenes of the video, in a written form) more clear. 

Modifications will be effective from 9th March, 2020 and will be available on IAP's website.

JEP publishes its Annual Evaluation Reports Regarding Food and Alcohol Advertising

Partial Annulment by the State Council of the Royal Decree Restricting Gambling Advertising
 
The Royal Decree of 25 October, 2018 on online gambling advertising includes (besides content provisions): a restriction on advertising of online casino games and slot machines to the operators’ websites and personalised advertising. With regard to online betting, it includes quantitative restrictions and channel limitations around sports and children’s programmes. Among other things, the provision restricting advertising for online casino games and slot machines to the operators’ own websites and personalised advertising has now been annulled by the State Council, following appeals that invoked a discriminatory treatment of various classes of online (and physical) gambling operators, read in French. The exact consequences of this decision remain to be seen.
 
This partial annulment of the main legislative text follows shortly after the publication by the state regulator, the Gaming Commission, of a public statement on the application of the Royal Decree purporting to clarify its scope, read in French.

Rada Reklamy - Press Conference 

Rada Reklamy held a press conference on 21st February, dedicated to successful self – regulation in the area of food advertising aimed at children.

Self-regulation of food advertising aimed at children is the first self-regulatory agreement in Poland and unique in Europe, adopted thanks to the close cooperation of TV broadcasters, the National Broadcasting Council, the Polish Federation of Food Industry and the Union of Associations Advertising Council, the owner of the Code of Ethics in Advertising. 
 
During the conference, the latest monitoring was presented which shows that the effectiveness of this voluntary agreement is over 98%.

IAB Europe 2020 Awards are Open!

 
Entries for the MIXX Awards Europe and IAB Europe Research Awards are now open.

The MIXX Awards Europe recognise and celebrate the best digital advertising campaigns in Europe.

The IAB Europe Research Awards recognise and showcase great European digital research projects and the contribution they have made to the development of the digital advertising industry.

With new categories in both competitions there are now more than 30 categories to choose from across the two awards. New categories in the MIXX Awards include Influencer Marketing, Digital Audio Advertising and Product Innovation. New categories in the Research Awards include Data Effectiveness and Cross-Media Measurement. 

IAB has also introduced categories to acknowledge and reward the best people in the industry:
  • MIXX Awards Europe - Digital Strategy Person of the Year
  • MIXX Awards Europe - Digital Creative Person of the Year
  • Research Awards - Digital Research of the Year
