AMSA International day

AMSA International Day is the annual project of AMSA International, and for this year the theme will take reference to "Chronic Diseases".

The purpose of the event is to celebrate the AMSA Vision of Knowledge, Action and Friendship to maximize involvement of our members across our chapters in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

Every AMSA chapter will celebrate it at any time of the year most suitable for them, however, we will have one date where all our festivities will be shown online.

This date will be considered the deadline for AMSA chapters to submit photos, write-ups, and videos on how they have celebrated AMSA International Day!

Thus, the submission of the report can be done through Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Website etc.

The deadline submission is March 15th 2014.

Dear student,

Are you conducting innovative biomedical research?
Are you interested making your work public by presenting it on an international stage?
Or are you simply interested in learning about the latest biomedical research?

The International Student Congress of (bio)Medical Sciences (ISCOMS) is one of the world’s biggest annual (bio)medical student congresses taking place in Groningen, the Netherlands. It is a venue for student research exchange aimed at undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students in the fields of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, kinesiology and other biomedical sciences! Last year they hosted 475 participants from 56 different countries. This year the congress will take place from the 3rd to the 6th of June 2014.
At ISCOMS, students can visit the congress as both presenting and non-presenting participants. The congress offers a scientific program with a pre-course on master research, student sessions (plenary, oral and poster) and workshops. It also features keynote speakers, such as Dr. Breuer, Prof. Dr. Ing. van den Berg and a Nobel Laureate! They’ll also feature an exciting social program, including a formal dinner and a post-congress tour.

MedStart Summary
by AMSA Hong Kong

On March 2nd and March 3rdof 2013, the Asian Medical Students’ Association Hong Kong (AMSAHK)  organized the first ever MedStartprogramme. With the generous support of both University of Hong Kong’s (HKU) Medical Faculty and the Chinese University of Hong Kong’s (CUHK) Medical Faculty, AMSAHK provided a glimpse of medical school to over 140 secondary school students. This 2-day programme included one day at each University with a variety of activities. Highlights included an experience in the CUHK’s dissection room to learn from prosections, Clinical Skills session, and various lectures and sharing sessions from doctors in different stages of their careers. The programme aimed to allow secondary school students to understand more about the life of a medical student and doctor.

This year, MedStart makes its comeback with a more diverse and interesting programme. New this year will be more integrated content in lectures where they will explore the social side of Medicine, extended Clinical Skills sessions where participants will learn a variety of skills that doctors in clinical consultations, and interactive tutorials and discussions where participants will be actively engaged to reflect on their motivation and ambitions in the field of Medicine.

As medical students, they fully understand the pressures and difficulties that come with being a medical student, and they are also aware that not everyone knows what being a doctor fully encompasses before they enter the field. Although they are not yet doctors, they hope that they can still assist current secondary school students that are interested in a career in Medicine to be fully prepared and have realistic expectations in a professional career as a doctor. After all, this is a choice that will affect their entire life and a commitment that should not be made lightly. This is the sole purpose of MedStart: to help students make a more fully informed decision about a career in Medicine at a point in their lives where they really need it. From the overwhelmingly positive feedback AMSA Hong Kong received they are positive they have achieved that goal.

AMSAHK looks forward to another fantastic year with MedStart and hope that you will continue to support us from afar!
